Jennifer Hall: To work together to complete the task at hand. To submit quality work on-time. To share and learn from each other’s experiences and offer our individual expertise. Aleen Lien: Complete assignments on time, thoroughly, and accurately with everyone’s participation. Sharona Porterfield: Work with my team cohesively to produce quality, efficient, effort reflecting work. I would like our team to produce the best possible work using the strengths of each team member. Rolando Rodriguez: To successfully pass this course as a team, taking advantage of our strengths and lessen our weaknesses by expanding our knowledge base, and enhancing our skills to minimize our weaknesses. Caroline Stockbridge: Turn in all assignments on time, turn in quality work – 110%, and work together as a team with each member contributing to the best of his or her ability with NO plagiarism. Kevin Talley: To work as a team in order to gain the best possible learning experience. Heather Voigt: To learn from teammates while using the creativity, skills, and strengths of all team members to complete a successful project.

What are potential barriers to the achievement of these goals?

Jennifer Hall: Potential barriers include time zones, work schedules, family obligations, miscommunication, and stress. Aleen Lien: Varying Schedules, different expectations, different lifestyles, prejudices. Sharona Porterfield: Time differences, priorities and availability of each team member, communication barriers and equal effort from each member. Rolando Rodriguez: The biggest barrier will be scheduling and trying to coordinate team efforts. Caroline Stockbridge: Lack of communication, lack of contribution, individualism overriding team effort, and failure to produce original work. Kevin Talley: Other potential barriers can be conflicts in schedule due to everyone being in different time zones and not meeting deadlines. Heather Voigt: Poor communication, working through conflict.

Ground Rules
Meeting schedule, locations, attendance expectations, agenda, assignment completion, communication methods, etc.

Jennifer Hall: Individual team member assigned work should be submitted and posted no later than one day prior to final submission of the assignment to allow ample editing time and check for cohesion of work. Members should participate and maintain open line of communication by replying to forum, personal email and/or phone in a timely manner. Everyone must be accountable for his/her portion of the group assignment. A team leader is not a bad idea as it can prevent confusion with who will submit the final draft and keeping track of draft changes. Check the team thread daily. Aleen Lien: Recap decisions, action items and expectations to ensure comprehension amongst all team members. Be respectful of each other’s input. If you cannot fulfill your team commitment alert the team immediately giving them the opportunity to redistribute the workload in order to meet the deadline while producing a quality product. In one of the following weeks you should expect to pull extra weight to make up for the team picking up your slack in the previous week. Rolando Rodriguez: Rules that we have established are; we will collaborate online and through conference calls on our individual research that we have assigned ourselves and to accommodate all of the members. We will contact each other the day before our scheduled meeting to confirm time for conference calls. In order to have a successful team, we have certain expectations that will make our team a success. We expect all the members to be on time for the meeting and to be prepared with the work that has been assigned to them. Upon completion of the research, we will collectively come together to combine all of our suggestions and ideas so that we will be able to complete the task at hand. Establish clear roles and responsibilities from the start so expectations are not ambiguous. Giving each other our personal schedules to know when we will be available. Sharona Porterfield: Good communication is a must to make team projects successful. Each team member should check team post daily to keep up with team assignments. Team members should allow at least 24 hours to respond to team post due to time zones differences and life and work schedules. If a team member is unable to complete their portion of an assignment please contact the team immediately to allow adjustments to be made. Each team member should place a priority on team assignment because your participation affects the team. Assignments should be completed ahead of schedule to allow other team members time to review the final product. If a team member has an issue that needs immediate attention from another member, be sure to post a thread in the team folder as well as use other methods of contact offered by team members to allow the needed team member to give as much time possible to the issue. Caroline Stockbridge: Email is best for me, I am online frequently. I prefer to start assignments ahead of time to allow the most time for review. I would like complete assignments at least one day ahead of schedule to share with team for comments/corrections and allow time for CWE submission. The best way to reach me is via Email. If it is urgent, definitely call me at home (EST). Kevin Talley: Communication is the key. If for some reason someone is not able to make it to the scheduled meeting or within the timelines that we decide, please let other team members know ahead of time and find another time to contribute. Everyone will still be held accountable. Heather Voigt: Communicate any issues as soon as possible; ask for help sooner rather than later, agree to and complete assignments by due dates, check the team folder at least every other day for team updates.

Conflict Management

What are potential conflicts that might arise among or between team members during this course? How will team members deal with these and other conflicts?

Jennifer Hall: Team members might be late in submitting work and in order to prevent or remedy this we should remind team members of the due date for our group assignment. Inability to take constructive criticism may cause conflict and result in lack of participation. Each member should understand that ultimate goal is working toward a successful team project outcome of our. If a team member is not fully participating the team needs to find out the reason and offer assistance. If there are some conflicts within the group that cannot be resolved, then we should seek assistance from the instructor. Aleen Lien: Be respectful of each other’s feelings. Listen to each other, be open to constructive criticism and be willing to share your disappointment and discontentment in a constructive and tactful manner. Sharona Porterfield: The most common conflicts among team members in this sort of learning setting is each team members point of view of proper time management, lack of communication and difference of opinions. The best way to combat all of these issues is be forward with your expectations but flexible to the expectations of others. If there is a concern or issue that needs to be resolved, bring it to the attention of the team immediately. We are all professional mature individuals and should carry ourselves that way at all times. All issues should be able to be handled within the team and if not we should seek the assistance of our professor. Rolando Rodriguez: We are all professionals. We realize that at times we will differ in opinion or our schedules will conflict or a team member will fall behind. As a team we are responsible for and to each other, we will at times have to help that member that needs help, respect that we differ in opinion, put our egos aside and chose a decision that will benefit the team and our goal to successfully complete the course. Caroline Stockbridge: Team member not contributing, lack of communication – I think that if we stay in regular contact (check the team newsgroup regularly), contribute as often as possible (even if it is only the little things) and address problems as they arise we will be able to produce quality work to everyone’s satisfaction. Kevin Talley: Potential conflicts are time management, lack of team participation. Heather Voigt: Possible conflicts - Lack of participation, missed deliverables. Conflicts arise when expectations are not met. Therefore, if project plan dates and deliverables are agreed upon, follow through or communicate as early as possible that there is an issue. Allow the team to be part of the solution. Be proactive in communicating. Do not let ego get in the way of a successful team project.
