Technological advances over the past several decades have drastically changed how we function on a day to day basis. Typewriters and postal mail were sufficient ways to communicate in the past, and now computers and email have taken over and allowed an almost instantaneous line of communication. The technology of the computer has made a major impact on our lives, and will continue to develop in its sophistication, ability and scope. Computers have allowed for significant advances in communication, information technology, and simply how we function in our daily lives. Email, instant messaging, and social networking – just a few advances in computer technology that have vastly changed the way society communicates. With a few keystrokes you could be chatting with someone from the other side of the world. Instead of waiting days for a letter in the mail, email has made it possible to have a conversation via the world wide web while only waiting a few minutes for a response. All of these forms of communication have allowed for further advances in how information travels, consequently making way for development and implementation of information technology. IT (information technology) is one more thing that can be attributed to the computer and the technology it provides. From large corporations to small businesses to home settings, information technology is utilized in our society as a vital resource. Health care systems have implemented seamless information systems to allow for transfer of patient information from office to office in order to improve the health care experience. Retail stores use computerized systems to track inventory, make orders, transactions, and account for sales. At home, a plethora of information is at our fingertips with access to the internet. Everything from finding the nearest Thai restaurant to researching for a term paper – all…...

The Army Reserve has become a critical part of our national security architecture and a positive investment for our nation. Transforming the Army Reserve from how the organization operated prior to 2001 to a solid contributor for unified land operations is remarkable. Senior leaders of the Army Reserve recognized the need for transformation in order to support the changing roles of a reserve force for the Active Component commanders. Supported by patriotic employers, resilient families, and caring communities, Army Reserve Soldiers are “Twice the Citizen.” Army Reserve Training and Readiness The United States Army Reserve has served our nation since 23 April 1908 as the Federal Reserve force of the United States Army. Self-Assessment Essay

...Bonnie Costa Self-assessment Essay February 6, 2013 Based upon my personality profile information, my strengths are that I am an efficient multi-tasker. I have a high energy level and enjoy working with people, as opposed to handling a task on my own. I am a very social individual but am able to work individually on projects when required. I am a very considerate, caring person and will go out of my way to help co-workers, family members, and friends. My older daughter has two young sons. In between running a house, going to school, and working 30 hours a week for Verizon, I always make time to have the boys sleep over once or twice a week, and I occasionally babysit when both parents are working Also, I enjoy helping people I don't know. For example, if I see a stranger taking a photograph of his wife and/or family, I'll approach him and ask if I can take a picture on his camera of all of their family together. I have done this on scenic bridges, at the beach, and at sporting events. Being the photographer in my family, I know how happy I am to have a group shot with me in there too! People are always very happy and receptive when I offer to do this for them! I find joy in the simple pleasure of helping to make other peoples' lives just a little bit easier. Making lists and generally being organized are two of my strong points. I was an executive secretary before raising my family; that was the most enjoyable and fulfilling job in my varied career.......

Kindergarten Readiness

...Kindergarten Readiness Is your child getting ready to start kindergarten? A child can show many signs of being ready for school. It is up to the parents to recognize these signs such as oral language skills, social skills, motor skills, and identifying letters and numbers. Having some preparation before starting kindergarten can help your child build readiness for starting school. Pre-kindergarten claims that preparation is very important for kindergarten readiness. What is kindergarten readiness? It is determining whether or not a child is ready for kindergarten. With so many child development surveys on children aging from three to five years of age, over six million children entering kindergarten are not adequately prepared for school. (Staff and wire reports, 1987). Children are required to have a certain amount of independence before they start to attend school. (Harker, 2012). To be successful in kindergarten a child must have more skills other than knowing the alphabet or how to write their name. The child’s age, social, motor, and academic skills are a big part of the preparation process. (‘Kindergarten Readiness: More Than Academics”, 2009). Pre-kindergarten preparation has its benefits with teaching children social skills and basic letter recognition needed for kindergarten. On the other hand, children without any kind of kindergarten preparation do not seem to be far behind on social skills but are indeed unprepared in other developing skills such as oral......

Chronic Disease Risk Assessment Essay

...Chronic Disease Risk Assessment Essay I have recently taken the chronic disease risk assessment on our school website on diabetes. After completing the assessment and reading the assessment I was given some pretty good pointers about the situation we put our body in from bad eating habits. Diabetes being a high risk factors for anyone who is overweight or anyone who may have this terrible disease that has plagued people over the last few years. And I do mean plagued, it seems as obesity rises in percentages that so does diabetes. There are two different types of diabetes that the world population deals and suffers with. These types are named after those numbers. Type one, and type two, are how they are classified. In type one diabetes the pancreas is an internal organ in which creates something called insulin. Insulin is a necessity for the body to have in order to change the sugar that you take into energy. Without insulin the sugar will remain unconverted and overload in the body causing extreme health issues and even death. This type of diabetes comes from the simple inability for your pancreas to do the job it was created to do, which is to create this hormone that is desperately needed in our everyday bodily functions. This type of diabetes can be treated by insulin being injected into our systems on a daily basis which does the same function as the not working pancreas. Type two diabetes, is a condition which is more common in the world today and is also......

Assessment Essay

...brainstorming. She would sit down with me and read the essay topic and instructions. Then we would begin to gather a list of ideas on the topic. Next we would discuss each topic and decide whether or not to keep it. Liz is very good with giving pros and cons on why to use or not use an idea. In the end we would narrow my list down to one idea to use. This brainstorming help gave me a great start to most of my essays. Another aspect that Liz helped me with is sentence structure. I sometimes write sentences that are awkward or to “wordy” as she says. Here is an example from the rough draft of this essay: “Now factor in that I haven’t been in school for fifteen years and you can probably see why I dreaded the idea of taking English 101.” Now read the second sentence of the opening paragraph and you can see the changes I made with Liz’s help. The sentence is not awkward or wordy anymore. The paragraph has a good flow to it. Liz’s ability to proof read my essays and spot these types of sentences have given my essay better fluency and transition. The last and maybe most important aspect Liz has helped me with this semester is the use of MLA format. I have never had to write a paper using MLA to site my sources. It looked really confusing to me when I looked in the book. Liz sat down with me and went over MLA citation dummy style for me. She broke it down word for word and line by line. When it came time to write my argument essay and use MLA to cite the works, she was......

Doctoral Readiness

...1 Running Head: Doctoral Readiness and Sense Making Doctoral Readiness and Sense- Making Annette Tucker Osborne University of Phoenix 1. What is a doctorate? According to Wellington text, how is a professional doctorate different from a traditional PhD? As I understand it, a doctorate degree is “an academic university qualification that requires research above a Masters’ Degree level. It is an academic degree or professional degree that qualifies the holder to teach at the university level in the specific field of his or her degree or to work in a specific profession. Doctoral degree is competency acquired depth in a specific area. According to Wellington (2005) students deliberately choose to take a professional doctorate rather than a PhD because they found the path to obtaining a PhD a lonely one, timing and topic not a match, and preferred a degree with the structure which the professional doctorate offers. Wellington identified the following common reasons for a professional doctorate versus a traditional PhD: * perceived structure; * cohort effect; * peer learning; * community of practice that developed as a result of a group all commencing a program at the same time and meeting on a regular basis; and * it is believed that a professional doctorate has a wide range of staff, with varying interest and expertise, would be encountered in a professional, taught doctorate. Reasons for choosing PhD rather than a......

Personal Communicatin and Life Skills Assessment Essay

...most out of the class, it is important for me to soak in all the information and to get a better understanding of myself when it comes to communicating. I want to be able to say I tried my hardest to take in everything that I could out of the class, and that I came out of it with new material that I could use to communicate better in my every day routine. To do this, I plan to come to class every day and pay full attention to the lecture. I will participate in all the in-class activities as well as the activities that my small group will come up with. I also plan to put my best effort into connecting with my small group, and to take the most things I can learn about myself and others out of that assignment as well. As I was writing this essay, I took it as more of a self-evaluation. It helped me to realize how valuable my strong points are, and how to work on the things I need to improve. Looking back, I am glad I took the time to self-reflect on these things and I feel that it will help me to improve my communication skills in the future by just knowing these things about myself that I do now....

Outcomes Assessment Essay

...Final Exam: Outcomes Assessment Essay Mary Smith July 4, 2010 Dr. Marsha Riggio - Instructor Strayer University Final Exam: Outcomes Assessment Essay Quote #0 – Peter (sample for you, so delete this when done) Psychological Concepts in Quote Peter’s quote describes how his Uncle Tex reacted to learning that he had a terminal illness. This relates to the stages of dying proposed by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross. When Tex first gets the news, he refuses to acknowledge the situation, which corresponds to Kubler-Ross’s stage of “Denial”. Later, Tex becomes very difficult, lashing out at his family, which corresponds to Kubler-Ross’s stage of “Anger”. Thus, Peter’s description of Tex’s experience goes along with the first two of Kubler-Ross’s stages of dying. General Perspective of the Concept Kubler-Ross’s stages of dying theory falls under the general perspective of developmental approaches to psychology. Like several other developmental theories, it is a stage theory. Kubler-Ross proposes that there are five stages to the process of dying: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. This is a true stage theory which holds that persons go through this series of stages in this particular order. At first, the dying person tries to evade the reality of the diagnosis (denial). As the reality of the diagnosis sinks in, the dying person tends to lash out at family and caregivers (anger). Subsequently, the dying person develops the hope that death......

Self Assessment Essay

...Self Reflective Essay Derek Alan Barbara ENG115Self-Assessment Reflection Derek Alan Barbara For the informative essay, I chose to do a web style prewriting strategy which was mainly effective at getting my ideas out while organizing them at the same time. I learned from this strategy that I can organize and have plenty of ideas come at the same time. The Purpose of my essay was to inform the reader on how to take a shower. From the getting ready part, through the actual shower and on to the after shower activities. I looked for content and organization in the essays read in class. I learned that other authors had really interesting stands on a variety of subjects. I learned that I needed to spend more time organizing and structuring my paper towards the end. I decided to revise my essay by proofreading it myself and making corrections throughout. I took time apart from the essay in order to gather my thoughts and be able to look at it with fresh eyes. This method was especially helpful because it allowed me to organize the way I wanted and decide what should be taken out and left in. I believe the strongest part of my essay was the amount of detail I used in describing how to prepare, take and things to do after utilizing a shower. I ran into some problems with getting off topic but I tried to cope with it by reminding myself of the main point and taking small breaks in between writing. This proved to be very useful and allowed me to stay on topic and......
