Samuel Moulton and Stephen Kosslyn used brain scanning to test whether individuals have knowledge that cannot be explained through normal perceptual processing. They claim that if any ESP process exists, the participants’ brains should respond differently to ESP and non-ESP stimuli. Instead, the results showed that participants’ brains responded identically to ESP and non-ESP stimuli, despite reacting strongly in how emotions the stimuli were. To manage a better test of ESP, the authors decided to develop a new method, which directly addressed the presumed source of ESP: namely, the brain. They argue that because the brain enables perception and stores information, even events people don’t consciously perceive or information they can’t consciously remember, it can offer a much more comprehensive test for ESP than self-report or behavior. To study whether or not ESP exists, Moulton and Kosslyn presented participants with two types of visual stimuli: ESP stimuli and non-ESP stimuli. These two types of stimuli were identical with one exception: ESP stimuli were not only presented visually, but also were presented telepathically, clairvoyantly, and precognitively to participants. Supporting ESP can be hard. Nearly half of the adults in the USA believe in the existence of ESP. I do not. Just as Moulton says, “one cannot affirm the null hypothesis.” Although at the same time some null results are stronger than others.

Topics 1 and 2

...Brad McPherson / Article Summaries Topics 1&2 / Strategy and Marketing Strategies for Learning from Failure – Amy C. Edmondson – Strategy Failure is being looked at the wrong way (Edmondson, 2011). Failure can be an important learning tool for organizations around the globe. If analyzed correctly and quickly, but also implemented effectively, failure can transform negative situations into positive growth. Failure is generally discouraged and instinctively passed onto someone else if possible; this is called the Blame Game (Edmondson, 2011). The Blame Game (discovered at childhood) discourages people from taking the blame for a mistake or failure. It leads to unsolved problems and lessons unlearned. Leaders must combat the Blame Game with the construction of a learning culture. A learning culture “makes people feel both comfortable with and responsible for surfacing and learning from failures” (Edmondson, 2011). To build an effective learning culture a leader must strongly encourage a realization of what happened or caused the problem-not who did it (Edmondson, 2011). A learning culture deals with failure in three ways: detecting, analyzing, and experimentation (Edmondson, 2011). Detecting failure is important because the longer it remains unsurfaced the worse the damages will be. It’s also crucial to effective analyze failure. Companies shy away from this because it makes everyone uncomfortable and harms self-esteem (Edmondson, 2011). Analyzing failure obtains......

Psychology 101 Topic Multi-Tasking Liberty University Online

...Donna Graves PSYC 101 Discussion Board 2 Can You Multi-Task? My thoughts on multi-tasking are complex. I can multi-task in some situations and circumstances and then some times I cannot. For example, at work in the classroom I can hear several children speaking at the same time and get almost all of my responses correct. However when I am trying to accomplish something at my desk, it is best for me to focus on one thing at a time. The same is true when I am at home trying to get multiple things done at the same time. The only task that can be done while doing chores is washing clothes. You only have to stop to change the clothes from the washing machine to the dryer. When Driving…. When I am driving you may see me doing several things but nothing major. I know you really shouldn’t do anything while driving. Although there are times when I may need to talk on the phone, if so, I use speaker phone. I may eat crackers or chips while driving but normally I eat in. When Studying… When I am studying I have to be focused. If I have the TV on, I am easily distracted. I can play music at times in the background and stay focused. It has to be soft music though, but I cannot look at my phone. If I look at Facebook or Instagram I lose sight of what I am studying. I really have to limit what I am doing while studying. If I cook while studying, my food might be burned. Activity on pg.139…. During this activity, I found just what I said to be true, I really cannot do......

Cj 101 Unit 2

...CJ 101 Unit 2 Assignment Insert Name Insert University I have been interested in the field of criminal justice since a young age. I never really knew what exactly what I wanted to be within the field until about two years ago. I was interested in becoming either a probation officer, or a private investigator. The idea of a private investigator came about watching shows such as NCIS and CSI. I always found myself really into the episodes, and actually seeming to be solving the case right along with them. My interest sparked with being a probation officer after I met my brother’s PO, and she explained to me her job description, and why she did what she did. I really am into helping others, and leading others on the right track. I feel this job is a fit for me because I can take someone who is troubled and help them get to a better position in life. Both sets of job skills relate to my professional goals because these are the two jobs I am interested in to meet my career goal. I know to do either job, I already possess good communication skills, verbal and non-verbally. I am also an active listener, which plays a part in the communication skill. Becoming a Private Investigator would probably be more complicated for me because I am not very good at analyzing data and information, I lack computer skills, and my knowledge of the law is more so what I have learned thus far in this class, along with few things I remember from high school. In order to achieve these skills, I......

The data included are fictional and were created solely for this assignment. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D scale) is often utilized to measure depressive symptomology (Radloff, 1977). It is a self-assessment that is completed by the individual. The CES-D contains 20-items rated on a 4-point scale (0 = Rarely or None of the Time to 3 = Most or All of the Time). The phrase “Within the past week did you…” prefaces the questions in order to emphasize recent depressive mood. Scores are summed and can range from 0 to 60. Traditionally, individuals with scores over 16 are identified as “depressed” (Weissman, et al., 1977), though due to high false positive rates, a score of 27 is considered a more useful cut-off (Zich, et al., 1990). The full scale can be accessed at: http://www.chcr.brown.edu/pcoc/cesdscale.pdf. Items 4, 8, 12, and 16 are reversed to avoid “yay-saying” or “nay saying” (Radloff, 1977). Several studies have validated four subscales across a variety of subgroups (i.e., depressive affect, well-being, somatic, and interpersonal) (Gliem & Gliem, 2003). Topic 1: Discussion Question 2

...Topic 1: Discussion Question 2 I reminisce to the excitement of the first day of school as I begin the next chapter of my educational journey. The sweet feeling of unknown, the butterflies in the stomach bring about childhood memories. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge, the joy of overcoming the challenges and most importantly, earning my BSN. I have my goals set clearly before me and my motivation is strong. I know I can overcome my fear of failure as I have done in the past. My fears almost caused me to give up during my LPN to RN bridge program. I felt overwhelmed and lost confidence in myself. Thankfully I had a strong support system. I was able to refocus on my goals, prioritize and utilize my resources to overcome my fears of failure and succeed. With hard work and determination I regained my confidence and drive to become a professional and a scholar. From that point there was no turning back. I have too much at stake to allow self-doubt to interfere with my goals. Although I encountered a setback during my bridge program I was able to complete it and earn my associate degree. I am glad I had that experience. It made me more confident in myself and more aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a student. I think it is naïve for a person to believe they will never fail. That mid set handicaps a student’s mind. I feel that knowing and accepting one’s fears is the best way to not fall into their depths. References: Lake, A., & von Baeyer, C.......
