In Exporting America journalist Lou Dobbs exposes multinational corporations that are shipping American jobs overseas to low wage countries. He basically states outsourcing American jobs to foreign countries has caused too many problems in the United States. Companies are literally giving away American jobs to foreigners because they will work for pennies on a dollar and no benefits. Lou tells how the power and financial strength of Multinational corporations has affected the political agenda. These corporations pay millions of dollars a year to elected officials for their own personal agenda. This helps on the off-shoring of jobs because these elected officials are preaching free trade. He explains and makes and attempts to dispel the twelve myths of outsourcing and free trade as well as the high cost of free trade. The current process of globalization has generated unbalanced outcomes, both between and within countries. Wealth is being created, but too many countries and people are not sharing in its benefits. They also have little or no voice in shaping the process. These global imbalances are morally unacceptable and politically unsustainable (Stiglitz pg 7). I am an Anti-Globalist because there is nothing Global about Globalization. I agreed with everything Lou Dobbs wrote in this book. I have been a victim of outsourcing, having to train my replacements or forfeit my severance and unemployment. I am totally against off-shoring jobs. What I find odd is out of all the outsourcing being done, when was the last time anyone has heard of a senior manager or CEO jobs being outsourced? This will never happen because these are the same people that participate in the Business Roundtable and agree that outsourcing is good. Outsourcing has caused a major uproar in this country. The middle class is disappearing and the only thing…...

Why is it such a hot topic now, why didn't this act of outsourcing start long ago? In this paper I will be looking at and discussing why companies are outsourcing the jobs overseas. What benefits that companies are getting out of it, and the problems that face management, as outsourcing seems to be the trend of big business. INTRODUCTION Outsourcing is the delegation of tasks or jobs from internal production to an external entity (such as a subcontractor). Most recently, it has come to mean the elimination of native staff to staff overseas, where salaries are markedly lower. There has to be a reason that companies are going to outsourcing rather than hiring people within their own country. The bottom line, the single thing that drives every company in the world. What ever can increase the bottom line you can expect that companies will do everything possible to reach higher profits. Living in Michigan almost my whole life, and being feed from the hand of General Motors outsourcing hits close to home. ...Kristen Ramer This day in age October 2012, there are many opportunities that present themselves to save companies money to be able to expand or grow. Outsourcing has become a hot topic with Americans and the majority of Americans are not thrilled with the idea. Americans that are not supportive of the idea may or may not have done their research to give them the facts to support their claims. What I am going to do is discuss the pros and cons of outsourcing and provide examples that can actually make or break companies who decide to outsource. Outsourcing is a strategic decision and the company ultimately has the final say, but the important decision may affect their reputation is that a chance they are willing to take? Airlines are extremely important in America, we are a country that travels nonstop and Airlines have become a necessity. I believe that some positions in the Aeronautical field could most definitely be outsourced, but the important question is what positions and at what cost? I think the best positions to outsource are the labor-intensive positions. For example the interior of the plane, putting fabric on the seats, assembling the seatbelts and all the other tedious work involved with setting up the airline inside the plane. I think outsourcing projects like this will ensure the customers are getting the best service and people that are able to communicate back and forth. I have been in a situation where I called for help with a technical......

...Outsourcing Outsourcing has been a consistent problem in the United States for years now. It has always sparked a flare of controversy when Americans now there is a job shipped overseas for cheaper labor. People bash on outsourcing saying that it is bad for or economy, however, businesses love outsourcing. The main reason why it is good for businesses is because it reduces the cost for labor. Businesses are willing to give someone a job overseas because it doesn’t cost the company as much money rather than giving a job in America. Since America has minimum wage and other countries don’t, corporations are willing to ship jobs overseas to save money. Outsourcing is also has disadvantages as well. For businesses, the quality of a product from the result of outsourcing kind of takes a nosedive. Since many firms that provide outsourcing quickly cut the quality of component parts in order to increase their margins. Eventually customers who are accustomed to believing your brand promise begin to notice that your once-great products are suddenly cheap. Also since most of the third party service providers excel at the services they provide, businesses are guaranteed of better quality than an in-house employee would give. Additionally, any service provider will always look to give the best of services since their reputation is at stake. Also another reason why outsourcing is bad is that companies may be supporting slave labor and child labor. Offshoring agreements typically......

...Outsourcing: What’s the true Impact? Cameron D. Rafford MGT 580: Intro to Organizational Behavior University of New Hampshire INTRODUCTION Outsourcing has quickly become one of the most controversial business tactics in the United States. Nowadays, if you call the customer service line of a major business or corporation, there’s a good chance you’ll end up talking to someone thousands of miles away. If you go shopping for new clothes, it’s likely that some of the shirts and pants you try on were manufactured by people from foreign countries, in shops far less glamorous than the ones the finished products end up in. Outsourcing is so commonplace in certain industries, we don’t even think twice about it anymore. But over the past few years, the trend has spread to practices far beyond call centers and apparel manufacturing. In fact, you might be surprised at the industries that rely on outsourcing now (Divine, 2010). This paper will examine the effects that outsourcing has already had on business, as well as look a little bit into the future to see what it holds for us down the road. It will focus on how it has affected our economy and society as a whole, as well as the individual organizations and their employees. There are both positive and negative impacts of this way of doing business that need to be realized and accounted for in order for the economy and American business to remain strong. We will......

Outsourcing trends change from year to year, and usually involve changes such as progressive outsourcing, cloud sourcing, mergers between organizations from different parts of the world and protectionism. In this paper we will look at a few of these areas such as the how in recent years the business practice of outsourcing jobs has been considered both a blessing for American business and a concern for the American worker, the amount of outsourcing being done and why, the affect on the economy in the United States, and the role government plays in outsourcing. The paper concludes, however, that the trend is just beginning and how our country...

...Outcome of Outsourcing As I stroll around my residence, I hear words like “globalization” and “outsourcing”, while whiteness the diversity of the population within my community. It is difficult not to see products that weren’t manufactured in China, Thailand, Japan, and other countries around the world. During Early America, outsourcing of jobs for production was once not a problem and not as prevalent as it is today. As early as the American Industrial Revolution and the shift to a capitalistic society, American workers had to sell their labor in order to make a wage for their survival. As time progressed, many rules and regulations were required for the operation of the factories in order to ensure a safe working environment and conditions for the employees. Although the government came up with labor laws, deceitful employers found alternative ways to exploit their workers to make a profit. It is possible to explore a variety of different sources and see that employers in the 21st century still use tactics by which exploit American employees by using outsourcing as a means to increase their profits. In the article “New Threat to Skilled U.S. Workers”, Froma Harrop raises awareness of the problematic issue concerning the outsourcing of American jobs to other countries. To begin the article, Harrop makes references to Princeton economist Alan Blinder and Ron Hira, a professor of public policy at the Rochester Institute of Technology. ...3010-001 Outsourcing Outsourcing is the practice of many companies of subcontracting certain functions to a third party outside of the company. Many companies have started outsourcing as they see it as a way of saving costs and increasing profits. They also believe that they are using labor more efficiently in doing so. The article I am writing about is from Information Week online and deals with Indian outsourcing. This article covers who is affected by outsourcing, if it is external or internal, and how it affects the environment. The Indian economy is greatly affected by outsourcing because they have more jobs and get more revenue from the American companies willing to outsource in India. The value of the rupee has continued to increase against the U.S. dollar, which in turn increases the costs that exports must incur. Outsourcing in this case impacts America both internally and externally. It impacts us internally because jobs are being taken away from hard-working Americans and being given to the Indians. It impacts us externally because our business ties with India have strengthened since we started outsourcing. It affects the overall environment in a positive way – profits go up for the companies doing the outsourcing, the economy reaps the benefits of these profits, and India’s economy is also strengthened. In my view, outsourcing should be allowed but only at a minimum. Continually outsourcing jobs to foreign countries causes high unemployment in America......

...1.0 Introduction First of all, outsourcing can be regard as finding an outside or external vendor to conduct all or certain part of an organisational activity and this method is usually practiced by Transnational Corporations in their business operations due to cost constrain (Ashley E, 2008). (Please refer to appendix 1.0 for more information on Transnational Corporations). Furthermore, the main factor that forces many companies to be more low cost oriented is due to the massive pressure of the current competitive market and also the destructive price wars causes by globalisation that has been circulating in the market ever since the pre-1900s era (Henry A, 2008). (Please refer to appendix 1.0(A) for more information on History Of Outsourcing). In addition to that, by cutting cost in any way can eventually effects the specific company`s position in the market and that is why many companies also tend to choose those low wage countries in Asia for the outsourcing of their non-core business activities (Ashley E, 2008). ...19, 2013 Outsourcing jobs – Does it help or hurt America? Outsourcing is any operation, job, task or process that could be performed by employees within an organization, but is instead contracted to a third party for a significant period of time. In addition, the functions that are performed by the third party can be performed within the organization or any other location. The U.S companies’ hires lower income workers in the emerging market instead of hiring Americans. The advantages of outsourcing are mainly benefiting the U.S companies to be more competitive in the global marketplace by keeping costs low. When U.S companies become less competitive this could usually drive those companies overseas, usually different types of jobs are outsourced for different reasons.
