Grammar Essay

Many people believe that summer break is more interesting than school, but in school you can learn more. For example, if you have all summer in school you would have a longer time for learning.

Students can benefit from school because they don’t use electronics all day long. For instance, if you are sitting in front of the computer all day your brain will turn to mush or waste. The students are putting their brains to work doing schoolwork or math problems for example. Students will also get homework that keeps the students busy.

If we did not have a summer break I think we should have at least holiday breaks. For example, we should have Easter, Christmas breaks, or important holidays.

We should not have a summer break because we can learn more. We would have a little bit of electronics which means we are kept busy. This is why I think we should not have a summer break. 3/21/13

Summer

...It was the first day of summer and I was so excited I got to relax until 10:00am. I was woken up by a delicious smell I wasn’t quite sure what it was but it smelled extremely good. “Are you awake?” mom asked. I replied loudly, “Yes mother.” She told me to hurry down because we needed to discuss something. So I gotten up showered, comb my hair, put my clothes on and headed down the stairs. “Morning mom,” I said. Mom was down here all alone cooking breakfast Pancakes, eggs, grits, and sausage. “Yummy,” I said. Everything looked so good because mom always cooked everything she made from scratch. So I got me a small portion of the breakfast and sat at the table. Mom came along and joined me. She explained to me that I’ll be staying with my dad this summer because she have an important job she had to attend. I wasn’t excited about this because I thought this summer was going to be the summer that mom and I was going to be able to spend time together. I had to be understanding because mom was a travel nurse and when hospitals are short of employers they call people like her to come out to work. So she told me after breakfast pack my clothing she was taking me to the airport my plane leave at 4:00pm. Dad stays in Miami, Florida so I had to pack clothing for that type of weather; which it’s always sunny down that way. So I packed all my shorts, tank top shirts, bathing suits, and sandals. Thirty minutes later “Are you ready?” mom called. I wasn’t ready to leave her but I guess......

Summer

...the summer was hot From an astronomical view, the equinoxes and solstices would be the middle of the respective seasons,[1][2] but a variable seasonal lag means that the meteorological start of the season, which is based on average temperature patterns, occurs several weeks later than the start of the astronomical season.[3] According to meteorologists[4][5],summer extends for the whole months of June, July, and August in the northern hemisphere and the whole months of December, January, and February in the southern hemisphere. Under meteorological definitions, all seasons are arbitrarily set to start at the beginning of a calendar month and end at the end of a month.[6] This meteorological definition of summer also aligns with the commonly viewed notion of summer as the season with the longest (and warmest) days of the year, in which daylight predominates. The meteorological reckoning of seasons is used in Austria, Denmark and the former USSR; it is also used by many in the United Kingdom, where summer is thought of as extending from mid-May to mid-August. In Ireland, the summer months according to the national meteorological service, Met Éireann, are June, July and August. However, according to the Irish Calendar summer begins 1 May and ends 1 August. School textbooks in Ireland follow the cultural norm of summer commencing on 1 May rather than the meteorological definition of 1 June. From the astronomical perspective, days continue to lengthen from equinox to solstice......

Summer Slide

...Running Head: Why the “summer Slide” Phenomenon Why the “Summer Slide” Phenomenon Wesley Parker DTCC December 12, 2009 “Each fall, teachers regularly spend up to six weeks going over the same lessons their students had been taught the precious school year because of a phenomenon known as the “summer slide.” How kids spend their time outside of school is critically important to their success. It is a societal issue and something that is important to address, community-to-community and parent-to-parent,” said Ron Fairchlid, (2006). Executive Director of the Center for Learning at John Hopkins University). Summer Slide is a name given to the face that student who does not keep up with their level of academic skills over the summer loses them. This situation is usually found in low-income areas. This loss of memory is usually done to the lack of mental stimulation. Since this is a known problem, there are various ways to limit of even preventing this from happening to the students. Summer slide occurs for more than one reason, but the main one is lack of access to books, magazines, or newspapers in the home. In some cases there are no libraries or clubs in the immediate community. Then, there is the lack of education the parents have, most have no higher education themselves and therefore, are unable to persuade the children they need education, so there is a lack of motivation. There is a way of preventing this and for the middle or higher classes it......

Break, Break, Break by Lord Tennyson (a Reflection)

...The poem made by Lord Alfred Tennyson really has this rhythm and upon seeing alone the title it really coveys pain and sorrow. The poem describes a narrator's feeling that there is loss throughout the world, but also that there is some life within that loss. The sea is then used to represent that there is something greater beyond the cycle of life and death even though words can never truly describe. In the poem "Break, Break, Break" the striking of the waves against the grey stone reflects the feeling of the speaker's soul that mourns his loss of a friend. Like Alfred Tennyson, I also had a heart breaking experience. When I was just in first year high, my grandfather passed away. And for me, that time, I just can’t help myself but to cry and cry until it runs dry. I really felt down and weary maybe because my grandfather means a lot to me. I just can’t forget the times when he used to scold me with his slippers and when fallen dusk comes he used to chase and play with me together with my cousins. Yes, it may be so rude and very fun to say, but it’s true, we used to play like we’re both kids. So memories to shared and it deeply and was woven in my mind. It seems like all those times that we’ve been together my “lolo” seems like a tattooed in my heart and mind. It really takes many weeks for me to move on and continue the life that I have. I still and I need to finish the race that God gives me. I knew that during those times I just thought of how all people also had......

Summer

...My perfect summer I never imagined a wonderful summer as the one I have spent in Logan. Global Academy 2012 gave me the opportunity to experience the most unforgettable moments of my life. Despite the cultural shock, the lonely I felt at the beginning and all de embarrassing moments I had, Logan have been the perfect place for me to grow as a person, to improve my English, to make new friends, and to become more independent. I just can describe this summer as my best summer ever, my perfect summer. My most memorable moment in Logan was the ropes course because I was doing really challenging things, things that I never thought I could do. After I achieve my goals at the ropes course and overcame all the challenging things I felt a great satisfaction and self-realization. At the beginning I was shock by American culture but as soon as I started understanding it I enjoy every single moment in Logan. I really loved my first academic track excursions. I went to a restaurant in a small town called Ogden and I tried the Mormon Muffin, it was so delicious. I also had a great time at the Independence Day celebration at Rommie Stadium, the fireworks were amazing. I had never seen so many fireworks in one night. I was so amazed and I took a lot of pictures with my camera. These experiences gave me the opportunity of talk with native speakers and improve my English skills. Shopping in Logan is one of the things I enjoyed the most; the clothes, shoes, and almost everything are so...

End of Summer

...Steph wrote a while back that she was sad to see summer going. For me, especially the way this summer has gone, I can’t agree. Yes, I’ll definitely miss the Saints games. I’ll miss the nice days, but for me, this is the time of year when I’m looking ahead. I’m getting closer to finishing up the software I’ve been working on all summer long. I may actually even get to take a real vacation in a month or two. Plus, with the advent of cooler evenings, I’m actually able to open the windows at home and avoid the noise of the air-conditioner and fans once in a while. And I’ve got a hope that with cooler weather, a break in the work (at least temporarily), and no Saints games taking up my my evenings, I’ll find more time to get out and ride my trike. And it’s been this way since I started my business. I’ve always tried to take on less work over the summers, but every year but one I’ve been working on a project that was originally supposed to be done in May, and ended up finishing around September. It’s a chronic problem in the software field, but being an outsider on these projects, I wonder why companies don’t bite off smaller chunks so they can let their employees take some time off during the summer when the ankle-biters are home from school, and families want to take vacations. And just for completeness’ sake, I should note that the one summer I had off, I was working on a project that was running late, and when hit with completely unreasonable demands on my time in May, I......

Summer Reading

...Khiree Cross Ap Summer Reading Assignment The Awakening By: Kate Chopin July 18, 2013 Part One The setting of The Awakening so far is in the Grand Isle, a popular place for a summer vacation where wealthy people go. The Grand Isle is a spot where all the wealthy Creoles, from New Orleans, go for the summer to relax, and have fun. The time setting seems to be in the early 1900s because of the things they do and the lack of technology. The husband of Edna, Leonce, go away on a trip and on this trip he sends her chocolates which no one in the present time eats anymore. The tone of The Awakening at the start is a relaxed and peaceful one. As the story progresses is becomes a more serious and emotional one. It is serious because Leonce feels as if his wife is carless for her family. She doesn't show too much love nor is affection towards them and that becoming a problem. It is also emotional because Edna is clueless to what he is talking about and feels bad after he tells her off before he leaves for his trip. She is lost and wants to find her own independence, or find herself. Part Two The three characters that I will characterize from this book are Edna, Madamoiselle, and Robert. Edna is a caring and loving wife and mother. She is married to a rich businessman Leonce who is the provider for their family. In the story so far Edna seems as if she is lost or missing something. She seems tired of the lifestyle she is living and is nonchalant about everything. She likes......

Florida Summers

...Florida Summers Each summer my entire family on my mothers’ side piles into a packed conversion van, a mini van, and an SUV and travel the 495.8 miles from Maiden, North Carolina to the Royal Floridian hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida. (Mapquest Maps) The following week is filled with excitement, relaxation, and like most other families, a little tension too, but most importantly, bonding. My family has done this the week of the 4th of July every year for the past 20+ years. Everyone in my family knows it is not acceptable to skip the annual family vacation. I am eighteen years old, and I have been to Florida eighteen times thus far in my life. It is a tradition. Especially after working full time jobs and striving through schoolwork for nine months, everyone is ready for that little break where everyone has that place where they go to escape the pressures and worries of life. There is always that one spot that can soothe all of your problems and trouble times of stress. Each time we go, more and more aspects of the trip take on ritualistic, almost sacred, significance. Indeed, going to Florida is a tradition, and one that I have come to cherish very much. While the week holds many events that change us as a family, the car ride down there is the most memorable. This specific car ride challenges us as a family and pushes us to put aside our differences and learn to accommodate others particular personalities. The main thing I will always remember from this......

Tennessee William’s “Summer and Smoke” is an excellent play which happened shortly after world war two in Glorious Hill, Mississippi. Alma Winemiller lives in a spiritual world, and John Buchanan, Jr., is absorbed with the physical world. Alma has been in love with John Buchanan since she was a small child. She is a kind woman, who loves with her soul and not with her body. John Buchanan Jr. is known for being friendly with many ladies and has the reputation of being a "party boy" that loves to have a good time. When speaking of love, he makes references to the physical aspect of it. A new character, Rose, revealed later on in the play. Rosa is the daughter of the Moonlight Casino owner. She almost married John but her father shot John’s father. On top of that Alma and John's relationship goes twisted during the cock fight at the casino. They break up over a simple argument about her wanting to see him a different person. The Summer Solstice

...THE SUMMER SOLSTICE Nick Joaquin THE MORETAS WERE spending St. John’s Day with the children’s grandfather, whose feast day it was. Doña Lupeng awoke feeling faint with the heat, a sound of screaming in her ears. In the dining room the three boys already attired in their holiday suits, were at breakfast, and came crowding around her, talking all at once. “How long you have slept, Mama!” “We thought you were never getting up!” “Do we leave at once, huh? Are we going now?” “Hush, hush I implore you! Now look: your father has a headache, and so have I. So be quiet this instant—or no one goes to Grandfather.” Though it was only seven by the clock the house was already a furnace, the windows dilating with the harsh light and the air already burning with the immense, intense fever of noon. She found the children’s nurse working in the kitchen. “And why is it you who are preparing breakfast? Where is Amada?” But without waiting for an answer she went to the backdoor and opened it, and the screaming in her ears became wild screaming in the stables across the yard. “Oh my God!” she groaned and, grasping her skirts, hurried across the yard. In the stables Entoy, the driver, apparently deaf to the screams, was hitching the pair of piebald ponies to the coach. “Not the closed coach, Entoy! The open carriage!” shouted Doña Lupeng as she came up. “But the dust, señora—“ “I know, but better to be dirty than to be boiled alive. And what ails your wife, eh?......

Summer Experience

...date: 2014.09.22 My Summer Experience From June to September 2014, the three month vocation is the last summer break of my student time. Instead of choosing to take part in the internship, I try my best to travel, and to know this world. The three months summer break is full of surprises and memory. I will never forget this 108 days. In June, I finished my final exam of the second semester of year 3 in UIC. And I also take part in the exam for the Human Resource Management qualification and Customer Service Management. I also pass the College English Test 6, without any preparation which own to the good learning environment in UIC. Then, I join the all-night music party holding by BNUZ students, with whom I play guitar, African drum and sing. I have made a lot of good friend including Lai, the nice man coming from Xinjiang. And Lai invited me to Xinjiang to travel. I had spent the next few days playing band with my new friends who are really good at JAM. Then, I organize the travel to my hometown, inviting my band members to enjoy delicious food. It was quite difficult to arrange the 8 people group by myself but however, I did it quite well. And they had tasted the best food in Shantou, which I believe is the best food in the world. Then, at the end of June, I helped my brother’s business selling wine and being the cashier in his wine store. At the same time, I also prepared for the coming summer program in France. The whole July is for the amazing summer program in......

500days of Summer

...Paper : (500) Days of Summer Have you ever fallen in love or dated someone? If so (500) Days of Summer will appeal to you. It is a Fox Searchlight Pictures production, Marc Webb is the name of the chief director, and the cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom Hansen and Zooey Deschanel as Summer Finn. The film was released on 7th August 2009. For some people who have not watched the film, I would strongly recommend them to watch. Regardless of gender, I am sure that anyone who has had an experience of a relationship or love could sincerely sympathize with the story of the film. As the movie progresses, the audience can see emotional growth in Tom, disbelief about destined events, and a change of mind in Summer Finn about love and relationship. The movie starts with the narrator’s saying “this is a story that a boy meets a girl.”, and a scene shows Summer is putting her hand over Tom’s hand and smiling. According to the narrator, Summer is just another girl of average except she wasn’t. Tom meets Summer on January 8th, finding her from 400,000 office buildings, 91,000 commercial buildings and 3.8 million which can be explained by a word, “fate”. When Tom meets Summer on the first day, he feels that Summer is the one who he has been looking for. On the 4th day, Tom meets Summer in elevator and Summer shows an interest in music, she likes Smiths which Tom was listening. On the 8th day, during the company party celebrating Millie’s engagement, Tom and Summer had a......
