My Love for Others

My Love for Others

Born a small baby at birth, I was the only girl and the youngest of two. As a small child growing up, I always wanted a sister. Being without a sister to spend time with, it caused me to be shy and not very sociable. Having someone to share my time; maybe would have caused me to be more of an outgoing person. I grew up playing alone with my dolls and entertaining myself. I did not have many friends and stayed indoors most of the time. In my time alone I enjoyed pretending to be a school teacher and church leader, so there would be school work for the students and church service for the saints. It started very early in my life with the desire to help others, which is what a teacher and church leader normally does. Growing up in an abusive environment made me very nervous as a child. Due to the abuse in my home towards my mother, it caused me to be very protective of my loved ones. I believe a child should live a life in his or her home without feeling nervous and afraid. Every child deserves a peaceful and loving home. My mother always made sure my brother and I felt loved. We would attend church every Sunday and participate in all the youth events. She made sure we completed our chores and homework before we could begin any playing time, because of that it helped me to learn what was important to least important. As a teen, I was always willing to babysit my younger cousins, ranging in age from infant to toddlers. My care and love for babies made it very easy to become a babysitter. When the married couples in the family would have a date night, I would be the first one they ask to babysit. During my time of being a sitter, my passion for babies increased more, and more, and I shared most of my time with them, sometimes keeping them overnight. There were times I thought of them as my dolls. It made me feel magnificent when I was able to make the difference in the life of the babies. I liked it when the children would get attached to me and didn't want to leave, as I felt they were captivated by my love for them. I've always bonded with small children, and that bond has continued in my life today. Throughout my life experiences, I discovered my love for people was unconditional-without limits, and I realized it is a gift from God. I believe it is God's will to share that love with as many people as possible. Love makes all the difference in the life of people, and it heals. We need the world with people healed physically, mentally and emotionally. It always has been a pleasure for helping others both physically and spiritually. I am often referred to as the counselor by many of my older family members. It is some of the parents whom I was the babysitter for who seeks my listening ear and God-given wisdom. I served as a Youth Leader for many years in my church along with being a mentor at Youth Villages for two years. I have jumped into actions numerous times just by seeing a person situation on the news. There it was a cold, snowy day after seeing a single mom of two, pregnant with triplet boys evicted from her home, my making a difference mentality quickly kicked in. There I found myself raising money, purchasing baby items and toys to make their Christmas a special one. It was the best time of the year to give some love away, for we would soon celebrate the birth of Christ. I want to see as many children as possible loved, safe and in a positive Christian environment, I know to make to make my dreams possible in a Social Service profession I would need to further my education and not only pursue a career but my calling. My passion for helping and seeing other's succeed and wanting continued spiritual growth for myself led me back to school.…...

Every time I watch any of their programs I always say to myself “I want to do that or that’s really neat”. I think that this is where my interest for food started. I became very curious and I decide to challenge myself and follow one of the feature recipes on Giada at home. I was amazed on how well I did it. Cooking and eating out became one of my favorite things to do. Started paying more attention on the restaurants that I visited and I graded their food and service. ...changed me as a person, but for others it is something that they are not comfortable with. It is foreign and hard to understand, but that is only through a quick look at only a section of what it really is. Through the years I have heard the same old thing; they all look like girls, I don’t understand what they are saying so I refuse to listen. Through Korean pop music, I have a better understanding of the world around me and my peers. It has not only given me insight about the hardships people go through but about the hardships foreign teens go through as people also when they go to a new country. When people see them the same thoughts come to people’s heads. They don’t understand them, so they don’t want to talk to them. It is amazing how much you can learn about society just from a genre of music. It is legendary, it is called the Hallyu or here in Canada and other parts of the world, it is known as the Korean Wave. Quickly and rapidly since 1992 Korea has been creating a storm that has been sweeping all over the world and leaving people in awe. Many Kpop groups have not only become nationally famous but have become internationally famous as well. Psy, SHINee, Super Junior, Big Bang, 2NE1 and Girls Generation are only a few examples groups that have made it into the US and Canadian music stream. Their fans are loyal, and sometimes, or in sometimes a lot of the times can go overboard. There have been cases of violence, where fans have attacked other fans. Fan clubs are a......

Compare the Way Love Is Represented in ‘Ghazal’ with One Other Poem

...Compare the way love is represented in ‘Ghazal’ with one other poem ‘Love’ can be defined as a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection to something or someone. Poe believed that all good literature must create a unity of effect on the reader and this effect must reveal truth or evoke emotions. His work is admired as an excellent example of how a short story can produce an effect on the reader; much like how ‘Ghazal’ and ‘Hour’ produce an effect of love and pathos towards the characters. The poems ‘Ghazal’ by Mimi Khalvati and ‘Hour’ by Carol Ann Duffy are similar in many ways. Firstly, the structures of both include couplets; however ‘Hour’ is in a sonnet form with 3 quatrains and a couplet to finish, and ‘Ghazal’ has 10 couplets. This shows the reader immediately that both poems are of the theme of love. Also, this type of structure links to Shakespeare’s sonnets, as they have a similar, if not the same, structure. Additionally, the form of poetry that ‘Ghazal’ is one that is traditionally sung and deals with unattainable love. This form dates back to 7th century Arabia. Secondly, in the poem ‘Hour’ the poet presents love with the description of ‘time’s beggar’. The love talked about in this poem appears to be personified as a beggar. This may suggest that love wants more time to be with their other half. In addition, the poet redefines wealth as love and time rather than as money and gold. Carol Ann Duffy uses two fairytales, ‘Cinderella’ and......

Love Is Blind, Among Other Things

...Love is Blind, Among Other Things “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a comedy by William Shakespeare set in and around the city of Athens during a time when the belief in the existence of magic and magical beings was not outrageous. The characters used form a wide variety of social classes from royalty to the lowly working class which helps to show that the affects of love are not confined to any specific group of people, but that everyone is equally afflicted. Helena is one of the four young lovers depicted in this play and has a unique perspective on love by being the only female who does not have a suitor. Shakespeare uses Helena’s first soliloquy at the end of act one, scene one, along with the play itself to help solve some of love’s more mysterious questions such as: why people love others who do not love them; why people fall in love with certain people; and why people fall in and out of love. Why is it that some people love others who do not love them back? When Helena is following Demetrius through the forest while he is trying to find Hermia and Lysander, Demetrius constantly berates Helena, telling her that he does not love her “I love thee not, therefore pursue me not.” (2.1.188) and that it sickens him to look upon her “For I am sick when I do look on thee.” (2.1.212). Helena, feeling Demetrius’ scorn, continues to follow him and profess her love for him “The more you beat me, I will fawn on you.” (2.1.204). The logic for why she follows him cannot exist in the......

...[pic] The Reflective Learning Process One of the problems of "book learning", is the difficulty of trying to relate theory to practice. We might know the answers, but true understanding cannot be absorbed until the experiences have been captured, analysed and related to the environment in which we work. Experiential learning, can be useful to learners who want to use direct learning experiences in order to develop an understanding of a process and gain further knowledge about a topic or issue. So how easy is it to translate experiences into learning? Kolb's learning styles model and experiential learning theory are useful concepts towards our understanding of our learning behaviour and towards helping others to learn. The following example might illustrate the value of turning book learning and emotions into learning experiences. A social worker interviews a parent of a young child. The social worker receives a question from the parent: "Do you have children?" "No", is the reply. The credibility of social workers in the field can be undermined. A lot of distrust can arise from "book learning", so using the work place to apply learning can be very useful. Kolb's learning theory is a four-stage learning cycle, (which might also be interpreted as a 'training cycle') but can be very useful. Kolb's model is particularly well-designed, since it offers both a way to understand individual people's different learning styles and also an explanation of a cycle of......

Love Is Love

...Legislator 13 states do not recognize same-sex marriages, when the other 47 states have legalized same-sex marriages. This falls in the hands of the government, but why should they have control over any marriage? I took the time to do some research, and found that each state gives the rights to who they will allow to be recognizing under marriage. It’s on a ballet to be voted on by the people of a state. This give grounds to limiting the marriage between sibling, a first cousin, and also having more than one spouse. An article I read in US NEWS by Brian Brown, which states “The purpose of publicly recognizing marriage is to encourage men and women to form stable families to bear and raise children”. This is a good point of view from him, but why does loving someone of the same sex not give the right to raise a family and be just as happy? Some might say its discrimination; some might say it is unfair to humanity. Is it fair to take away the pursuit of happiness because a couple of the same sex wants the same as a couple of the opposite sex? Marriage brings on many new roles for couples like buying and taking care of a home, buying a vehicle, joining bank account, picking medical and life insurance. These rights of marriage are stripped from same-sex couples, not giving the equal right to be with the person they love and care for and what to build a life together with. Love is love, why should it be based on who you are in love with? When looking a same-sex marriage, I......

...Definition of Race Race is a group of people of common ancestry, distinguished from others by physical characteristics, such as hair type, the color of eyes and skin. Race as a social construction is changing as time goes on. Our daily lives are affected by race whether we are aware of it or not. We can see all over the world that race has affected various domains of our lives. From the types of jobs we have the amount of money we make, the kinds of friends we keep, the food we eat and even the schools we will attend. The entire foundation of race is constructed on a platform based on the color of people’s skin. The construction of social reality is based on social groups and the agreements and disagreements that are made based on the acceptance of certain constructions when it comes to our existence. There is nothing biologically real about race. I have learned that that there is no certain identification of race that exists from our collective agreements, acceptance, and positions other than our existing with one another. Race is a social construction that has real consequences and effects. Race shapes the way we view ourselves and those around us. We shouldn’t have an objective knowledge about race. We can know what race is and how it works being aware that regardless of the various shifts in the meaning of race that they have occurred through history and going to occur geographically but this should not lead to skepticism and the destruction of positive social......
