Subject: Request to Use Screen Shots of Microsoft Products in User Manual

Dear Sir/Ma’am:

I am writing to ask permission to use screen shots of your software in order to create an illustrated user manual. I will be using the Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010 and will be using screen shots of your products, with your permission, in order to make the manuals I am creating easier for people to follow and better understand.

I would like to use screen shots in my manual to help explain any written text with images, as images are often easier to understand with written text. While the text will give them step by step instructions of the procedures, the images will be used to show them what to look for, so hopefully they will be able to better follow the procedures and make sure they are using the software correctly. Being able to see exactly what should be done will help make the users of the manual more efficient and less frustrated. I believe that doing so will improve the users experience with your product, and make them more willing to try Microsoft products in the future.

I would like to thank you for your consideration on this matter. If you require any further information please contact me by email at sjatkin@email.phoenix.edu or by phone at (555)555-5555.

Sincerely,

John Doe

Other Uses for Microsoft Powerpoint

...Week Seven CheckPoint: Other Uses for Microsoft PowerPoint Dwayne L. Wright, Sr. PC Applications Support / IT 206 October 5, 2012 Ms. Edythe Doe People love a show but they also hate a long boring one. No matter the audience, topic or setting the idea is to keep the spectators attention from beginning to end; with the expectation of generating a dialogue when it’s over. Microsoft’s PowerPoint has the tools to get the job done. Creating a presentation isn’t as difficult as some may think. By following a few steps anyone can create a show that will impress with images, pictures and other visuals that can be animated with sound and other affects while successfully delivering a hard to forget message. Although versatile enough to transform any moment or information into a visual cornucopia, the process is time consuming. To begin, schedule and reserve time to complete the project in a timely fashion with allotment for previewing and editing. Gather and have all your information together and organized; message, graphics and other objects. PowerPoint offers several pre-formatted thematic options with background and orientation, text, font size, type \ style; and color scheme that help guide the content and format to the end. “Professionally designed standard layouts help you save time by formatting and creating content. You then can modify these layouts to create custom slides to fit your specific needs”(Gary B. Shelly, Thomas J. Cashman, Misty E...

Microsoft Office User Manual Critique

...Critique of Microsoft Word User Manual The key to beginning anything is a good introduction, be it a book, an essay, and editorial, and yes, even a user manual. I especially enjoyed the Introduction to the user manual for Microsoft Word 2007. It begins with an introduction to the authors that contributed to the user manual, telling us about their fields of expertise and experience in technical writing. Such an introduction assures the reader that what they are about to read comes from those that have much experience in the area and that the user manual will be as informative as they hope to expect. It then goes on to describe what is new in Microsoft Word 2007, at first glance you can already tell that Word 2007 is more aesthetically pleasing, but this section goes beyond the obvious make over to describe new and different features from previous versions of MS Word which helps the end user learn what to expect and what to watch out for if they encounter a feature that is unfamiliar to them.. The experience of the author’s technical writing skills really shows. Everything is clear and concise. Even the most basic of beginners should have no troubles learning the software through this user manual, they keep things simple without using sentences that run on and on. However, I searched high and low looking for anything that would help to describe what certain terminologies such as “footnote” or “bullets” mean. The manual is pretty extensive so I may have just overlooked it....

Microsoft

...Company History: With annual revenues of more than $32 billion, Microsoft Corporation is more than the largest software company in the world: it is a cultural phenomenon. The company's core business is based on developing, manufacturing, and licensing software products, including operating systems, server applications, business and consumer applications, and software development tools, as well as Internet software, technologies, and services. Led by Bill Gates, the world's wealthiest individual and most famous businessman, Microsoft has succeeded in placing at least one of its products on virtually every personal computer in the world, setting industry standards and defining markets in the process. Origins of an Empire Bill Gates was born in Seattle in 1955, the second of three children in a well-to-do family. His father, William H. Gates II, was a lawyer, while his mother, Mary Gates, was a teacher, a regent of the University of Washington, and member of several corporate boards. Gates was first exposed to computers at school in the late 1960s with his friend Paul Allen, the son of two Seattle librarians. By the time Gates was 14, the two friends were writing and testing computer programs for fun and profit. In 1972 they established their first company, Traf-O-Data, which sold a rudimentary computer that recorded and analyzed traffic data. Allen went on to study computer science at the University of Washington and then dropped out to work at Honeywell, while Gates......

Criticalinformationsystems Microsoft Word 2010 Product Guide

...Critical Information Systems Microsoft Word 2010 Product Guide Microsoft Word 2010 is a more advanced program than earlier versions which has been modified and enhanced to better serve the public’s needs. The Microsoft Word 2010 Product Guide describes the differences and improvements for this program. The following pros and cons are things that I found to be helpful and some things that need to be improved. A clear positive feature of the user’s manual is that it highlights the new aspects of the 2010 version of Microsoft Word. This is a marketing plus that caught my attention. One improvement to Microsoft Word 2010 is picture editing where you can edit photos without the need for other editing programs. There are many options to change the photos, including sharpen and soften, brightness and contrast, photocopy, marker, line drawing, glass, pastels and more. There is also a new feature that can remove the background to display exactly what is desired to be shown in the picture. The manual includes an explanation of how to navigate to the proper place for the picture editing. Screen shot is another feature that I find useful. To be able to capture a screen shot within Word makes the process much more convenient than going through other programs then transferring it to Word. There are clear cut instructions to show where to go to use the screen shot method. The improvement of spell checker not only catches...
