Marketing Communications Memo
Date: July 15, 2013
To: Management Team
From: Michael Richter
Re: New line of educational toys for kids aged 7-10 As Top of the Rock Toys moves into the future it is time our teams begin to discuss our new product realization for our toys. As of last week, it was brought to my attention that we do not have many options for educational toys, especially for the children in the ages of 7-10 years of age. As many of you may already know, Top of the Rock Toys want the children of our world to enjoy playing, yet at the same time continue to learn and develop the fundamentals needed to become the top minds in our country.
The reason for this memo is to inform you that I will be leading the team that will develop this new product line, since this will be a joint effort from all the management team I am cordially asking that all teams that have data that pertains to demographics of our markets as well as psychographics please contact me as soon as possible so that I may begin to understand our target market, thus building our toy company into the leader of educational toys. The following will be a list of what I may or hope to obtain from the management team. The data that is provided will negate our goals so it is vital that you only pass along key information to the specific age group of 7-10 years of age.
Our newest products have aimed their targets at younger children then normal, with this said we will want to understand the psychographics of these children’s behaviors. What we as a team must look at in particular is how the children in this age group make the decision to want to play with our toys. The main areas I would like to cover will be the personality of the children. It is not as simple as the personality of these children makes them buy it.
We are located in Minnesota; this is our proving grounds. I ask is the state a highly educated state? In fact, Minnesota has some of the highest test scores in children of this specific age group, according to the Us Census Bureau, “Minnesota had the highest percentage of people over the age of 25 with a high school diploma.”(US Census Bureau, 2004) This demonstrates that parents in this location will also play a heavy part in getting children to play with educational toys.
What does this mean? These are our key demographics, we will be aiming our product marketing at ages 7-10, our location is Minnesota, who has a higher than average educational rate. These three demographics give us a challenge to market our toys to those who already enjoy learning. The reason why this is a challenge is because the age group we have chosen is full of spirit, ready to run and play. Many educational toys do not offer running and playing, however, since our location has a nice weather pattern that will enable us to capture a locked in the house winter audience our success rate increases by double. So let us address our plans for making this happen.
As before I mentioned we want to understand psychographics as much as we do demographics. Our buy in is going to be the snow, this will be when we release our ad campaign, weather outside is frightful, and the games looks so delightful. This is going to contribute to the buying motives of this location. Research suggests that educational games increase during winter months. Great, we now know that Minnesotans are often locked in and have very little for entertainment. How can we find their interests out? Well, let us look at the stats again, remember the state is a higher than average educational state, this must mean that they enjoy learning. This state’s demonstrates a strong belief that learning is important.
Where do we go with all this information? First we will launch our release of our product at the Mall of America in Minnesota. This will bring us directly into the first demographic, second we will offer a discount to student at the mall at the time who have recently received honors on their report cards. This is our sound understanding of who will want to buy our products, students who maintain good grades and live within a state that has climatic changes. The children demonstrate a personality of learners, based on our data gathering children who often spend more time indoors will actually have more exposure to educational tools. On a side note while marketing is communicating this into our ad we will want to ensure we steer clear of sounding like we endorse not playing outside. We at Top of the Rock Toys actually whole heartedly believe that children should play as much as possible to remain healthy in their body as well as their minds.
Children of these age groups have short attention spans; our focus is to offer games that provide entertainment to those children who have become bored from cold weather blues, parents who have had a day full of children at their feet. All of these are our psychographics. Did we forget about the parents, absolutely not, while we researched the psychographics of the children we discovered that parents also have the same beliefs and attitudes towards products as the children do. See part of the understanding you target is falling looking into the entire world of the target, and parents teach their children to enjoy learning. They also teach them the habits of boredom, so we will ensure that the games we offer will also include parent activities to do with their children. If the parents are happy so are the children.
To some it all up, we have looked at our target analyzed our target and have now made a game plan on how to deploy our communication from marketing. It may seem like a lot however when it begins to move it will all be worth the efforts. No company has ever made a cent without doing a little bit of research on their consumers. Research enables the marketing company to know who can see the ad before they ever see it, in a way it like predicting the future, but you can only get good at when you try hard and practice. Please take a second and think about the wonderful enjoyment we can provide both parent and child alike with our new products.

Thank you for your time
Michael S Richter

The Fourth of July

...The fourth of July I remember when I came to America it was the first time in my life that I felt different from the people around me and I felt out of place in my surroundings. I believe that’s how Audre Lorde felt grown up as African American in the 1930s and 1940s. At this time in American history racism against African Americans was very common. In Adre Lordes story “ The fourth of July” she expresses her frustration and anger towards American society and also her parents for ignoring obvious racism and not properly expresses what was happing to her family and why. She seems to be irony to expresses this anger she feels toward American society. Adre Lordes story is a about her family's trip to Washington DC, during the summer after her 8th grade graduation audre lorde thought that Washington DC as a capital would be different from how it was. She was not expecting to find racism in the capital of a country that’s stands for liberty, freedom and equality. But still her and her family felt discriminate. In her story she writes, “The waitress was white, and the counter was white, and the ice cream I never ate in Washington D.C., that summer I left childhood was white, and the white heat and white pavement and the white stone monuments of my first Washington summer made me sick to my stomach for the whole rest of that trip and it wasn’t much of a graduation present after all” she uses the word “white” a lot in her story to describe......

Outline

...an outline naturally organizes the information in a highly structured, logical manner, forming a skeleton of the textbook chapter or lecture subject that serves as an excellent study guide when preparing for tests. This method of note taking is extremely useful in most instances; however, in classes, such as math or chemistry, where a lot of formulas, graphs, or structures must be drawn, the outline method should be replaced with a better note-taking system. How to Use Write points in an organized manner based on space indentation. Place major points farthest to the left. Indent each more specific point farther to the right (level of importance is indicated by distance away from left margin). Advantages The outlining method emphasizes content as well as relationships between the material. Also, it reduces the time needed for editing and allows for easy reviewing. Disadvantages This method requires more thought for accurate, understandable organization and, therefore, cannot be used during lectures that move too quickly. Example How to study from an outline:    I. Read through one line at a time          A. Explain the information and connect the idea to others presented    II. Check the accuracy of the information    III. Add clue words          A. Jot down keywords or details that you didn’t originally include in the outline          B. Use these keywords to jog your memory when studying from the outline    IV. Recite information from the outline......

Fourth of July

...Makayla Cowles Professor Snow History 100 04 February 2015 The Meaning of the Fourth of July The Fourth of July is a national holiday celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which declared the United States free from England’s control. This day gives Americans the great opportunity to renew our dedication to the principles of liberty and equality. It speaks to all who strive for liberty and seek to show the principles of self-government. Unfortunately, not everyone living in America felt the same American pride on the Fourth of July. The freedmen and slaves living in America has different views about the United States and the documents securing freedom and equality. One man, Frederick Douglass, spoke out for the slaves and freedmen in his speech “The Meaning of Fourth of July for the Negro”. In 1852, Frederick Douglass was invited to speak about what the Fourth of July means for America’s black population. In his speech, Douglass questions what the Fourth of July means to a slave. His answer: the Fourth of July is, “a day that reveals to him … the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim”. Douglass continues by saying, “your celebration [is] a shame, a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages”. Douglass states there is no other nation on Earth guilty of the bloody and crimes made by Americans during this time. Douglass makes it known that equality is not within America. The high......

The Fourth of July

...In “The Fourth of July”, Audre Lorde express her anger toward American society. Her angry was caused by discrimination and racism in our Nation. I agree with Lorde, during this period in our nation’s history racism was treated differently. Lorde describes the excitement she felt before her family trip, her reaction to the first encounter of racism while on the trip, and how her parents did or did not deal with racism. To begin, I feel that Lorde was excited to receive a trip to Washington D.C. as a graduation gift. Lorde believed the trip was a gift of accomplishment for graduating the eighth grade, which turned out to be a train wreck. She didn’t understand what people meant by “it’s time to grow up” until her trip that summer in 1947. Her eyes were opened to what her parents had been hiding from her during childhood. The trip that was to celebrate her achievements and the beginning of her journey into adulthood turned into an abrupt experience that would change her aspect of our nation. Conclusion: Lorde provided a personal experience on how cruel our racial society could be. …….. I grew up in a mostly white neighborhood with only a few African Americans that went to my school, so racism was not an issue in my childhood. From the history books, movies, and articles like “The Fourth of July”, it helps me understand what it must have been like. With the Civil Rights Laws in place today, people are supposed to be treated equal, but unfortunately , that does not always......

...Sydni Craig 000108021 Professor Bailey T and TR April 6, 2016 The Fourth of July In the story, the Fourth of July, by Audre Lorde the little girl is telling the story of a graduation present of going to Washington D.C. As a graduation present from graduating from the eighth and older sister from graduating from high school. And it says that she received the best graduation present but I agree to disagree with the people, who would say she received the best graduation present. I agree with going to Washington D.C. was the best graduation gift the eighth grader could receive. I agree because at a young age especially since she will be going to high school, it is great for her to see everything at firsthand of what the world was like during that time. It gives her an idea of how the world looks like in 1947, were as she is always being hidden from it and not telling what has been going on. But I can also disagree because her parents should explain to her in detail of what was going on, and I also disagree with that being a graduation present and it being the best present she will ever receive. She went through the process of seeing how and what life really is at her age and how it will be for the next couple of years. The world at the year if 1947 was full of racism and discrimination in which it is bad in some states, but also horrible in others. The young girl in the story witnesses her family and not be treated right at firsthand. The thing that was messed up about......
