Growing greenery is our responsibility
Climate change is in the news. It seems like everyone's "going green." Environmental protection is a major concern in today's society. Environmental movements are a form of new social movements alongside the women's movement. Environmentalists are concerned with the environment in its relation to human society.
There are many environmental issues facing our green world today. We the new generation owe the basic responsibility of protecting our green world.
Some of the issues which we can focus on to improve the earth's environment are mentioned below;
Save fuel
The biggest issue the world faces today; it is our dependence on oil. This dependence we have is so strong that, we have started wars for oil. It is time we do something about it and try and find an alternative form of energy. Because soon this problem will be too much for us to handle and by then it will be too late.
Save energy o Set your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and a few degrees higher in the summer to save on heating and cooling costs. o Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) when your older incandescent bulbs burn out. o Unplug appliances when you're not using them. Or, use a "smart" power strip that senses when appliances are off and cuts energy use. o Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water. o Use a drying rack or clothesline to save the energy otherwise used during machine drying.
Save water o Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too. o Plant drought-tolerant native plants in your garden. Many plants need minimal watering. Find out which occur naturally in your area.
Save Trees o Illegal cutting of trees shall be stopped. This reminds us of The Chipko movement or Chipko…...

...Christmas is a holiday celebrated by Romans. The first time the birth of Jesus Christ was ascribed to December 25 in the 4th century, according to the early Roman history. Early celebrations of Christmas are considered to have resulting from Roman and other European festivals that marked the ending of the harvest, and the beginning of winter solstice. Some traditions from those celebrations that have survived include decorating homes with greenery, giving presents, singing songs, and eating winter foods. There is a legend about St. Nicholas. Although a lot of his history is unconfirmed, he lived in the 4th century and is believed that he was a bishop. Many miracles ascribed to him are doubtful. Yet he was considered a patron saint in some countries. Children, sailors, and the poor also considered him a saint because he helped them. So to honor him, the Feast of Saint Nicholas was celebrated on December 6th and presents are given the night before. This tradition was well recognized by many countries by the 12th century. Eventually, Christmas Day and St. Nicholas’ Day were combined because they were so close together. St. Nicholas took on different characters in different countries. For example, The Netherlands have Sinter Klaas, Father Christmas gives gifts in Great Britain, Père Noël gives gifts in France, and in Germany St. Nicholas has had many names including Klaasbuur, Burklaas, Rauklas, Bullerklaas, and Sunnercla, although the name Father Christmas is becoming......

Singapore Urban

...Given the small land size of Singapore, what are the main urban obstacles facing the citizens? It is because of Singapore’s small land size that we’ve had to reconcile liveability, environmental sustainability, and economic competitiveness more so than many other cities, even as urban density increases with population growth. As a city-state, Singapore has limited resources. The scarcity of land has been and will continue to be a challenge we face, both for our citizens and the government. The small land area is related to other urban challenges such as traffic congestion and maintaining a liveable environment with adequate greenery and a sense of space. The challenge of balancing economic and population growth with liveability and sustainability is multi-faceted. Besides policy and technology innovations, the key is for all stakeholders to work together – government, businesses and the people to engage in positive interactions and collaborate on all fronts in order to overcome the urban obstacles. As many cities globally face increasing urban density, Singapore’s experience in ensuring a liveable and sustainable environment in spite of our population density is very relevant. At the same time, Singapore has much to learn from other cities. This is why platforms such as the World Cities Summit play a crucial role in facilitating necessary sharing and learning. The World Cities Summit from June 1-4 will have more than 130 mayors and city leaders gathering in Singapore,......

Naruto and World War 2 most readers as the truth. The Uchiha were dangerous and had to be eliminated. Any surviving Uchiha with a legitimate grouse was portrayed as short-tempered and irrational, thereby justifying the Genocide. Meanwhile, most Senjus were portrayed as the heroes of the Shinobi world. Even Danzo was later shown as simply being ‘misunderstood’. Good and evil was clearly demarcated and every reader accepted it. No questions of morality were entertained in the surviving Senju or the reader. All this brings me to a sobering conclusion. Even in fiction, as in real life, history is written by the victor. They are the ones who people root for, morality be damned. A dying tree stood near my childhood home, branches dry as bone. Surrounded by greenery, it endured, bearing testament to the power of hope....

Big Two Hearted River

...hurry, . . . all of this bespeaks a mind fragile with shock as it attempts to construct new grounds for sane existence” (81). Nick’s meticulous attention to detail becomes a psychological coping mechanism to desert his traumatism and accomplish newfound sanity. Traversing the mountain, Nick figuratively and physically passes through different stages of his journey. Nick begins his journey in a blackened, eerie town where little life exists, and as he hikes, he stumbles upon endless greenery: tall pines, ferns, and grasses. Nick experiences a complete change of scenery, his mental state evolving. In Student Companion to Ernest Hemingway, writer Lisa Tyler explains that Seney relates to Nick’s psychological state: ”All of Seney’s buildings were evidently destroyed by the fire, and the burnt countryside functions as a metaphor for Nick’s scarred psyche” (40). Just as fire scorched Seney, the horrors of war torched and blackened Nick’s soul. As Nick encounters the liveliness of nature, the greenery symbolizes Nick’s mental growth and revitalization, nearing new life. Nick’s struggle to extricate his mind of images of death and destruction tangles a pessimistic tone into the story. War dehumanized Nick and he questions whether or not he will ever feel completely alive and whole again. As Nick sits against a singed tree stump he notices a black grasshopper and pessimistically contemplates its state as he subconsciously wonders about his own life: “He realized that the fire......

...other differences among us are determinants of our productivity. The reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that it is not necessarily you work for long hours to increase your productivity. You just get more tired and can even contribute to lower outcomes. The best thing is to find your appropriate and active hours and stick to them. Your body will learn and adapt completely to the golden hours and as a result, the output will be more, and the individual will ever be energetic when doing the daily duties. The humorist; Erma Bomebeck said that we should never seek assistance from the doctor whose office plants are already dead. The same applies to our workplaces. We should not work without a sort of greenery at our desk or cubicle. In simple terms, the greenery should be somewhere close to our vicinity. The plants have psychological and physical benefits, and they help in boosting the productivity in the office. The biology of the plants is that they assist in air circulation creating a stimulating environment by refreshing the air we breathe thus keeping us more active. Also, during the respiration, the plants releases some moisture into the surrounding (air) creating a calm environment that is more comfortable to work in. As well, plants play a significant role in reducing distracting noises coming from the surrounding thus act as a stress reliever. We are all aware that when under stress, our performances decreases and we can even perform some activities......

Guerrilla Gardening

...other thing the landowners isn’t happy about is the fact that the guerrilla gardeners plant fruit and vegetables, which people can eat from, and that’s of course a threat to the landowners. But it isn’t everybody who thinks guerrilla gardening is a bad thing. Some authorities will sometimes see that a guerilla garden is a good initiative and make it an official garden for the use of the community. Personally I see why the landowners get upset and how it can be a threat to them but I think they’re overreacting. I think guerrilla gardening is a good initiative and guerilla gardeners don’t do it because they want to irritate people. Guerrilla gardeners for example often wish to make a dreary area look better by turning it into a place with greenery and colorful flowers, and by introducing plants they also improve the quality of air, because plants lower the CO2 content. That to me is a great initiative and I see it as a very positive trend in a society. Though sometimes I think guerrilla gardeners should think about where they plant. For instance they shouldn’t plant at places, which are holy or very religious. Places, which would be a good place for guerrilla gardening, would for example be a small surface of grass, which isn’t a holy or religious place. So under my circumstances they can plant where ever they want except from holy and religious places, but to avoid any trouble the guerilla gardeners could ask the authorities or owners where it would be all right to plant and......
