Effective Time Management

...Time management has been a problem for many people, and I find that this is true for me. Because I am a stay at home mother of four children, a wife, and a full time student, I always have a lot to do at all times. Finding time to complete all of my tasks, whether it be helping the children with their homework, doctor appointments, meal planning, shopping and preparing meals, cleaning up after the myriad of messes that always seem to occur, or trying to get my own homework done, there never seems to be enough time to get it all done well. I find myself thinking, “What is more important: homework or laundry?” Homework always wins, which creates a backlog of laundry. My hope with this research paper is to find a way to manage my time so effectively that I’m able to not only complete all of my tasks, but to actually have a little time for myself budgeted in. In considering the problem, I had to consider the source. Why is it so difficult for me to manage my time effectively? What is getting in my way, and how might I change it? After evaluating the problem, I came to the conclusion that an overall lack of focus is my greatest challenger. I tend to do things on the fly as they come at me rather than carefully planning for them and executing the plan. Without a detailed plan for each day, I tend to begin a task only to get distracted by another. By blocking out a portion of the day for one specific task, I will gain the focus I currently lack. In researching for...

Effective Human Resources Management

... Effective Human Resources Management Name BUS303: Human Resources Management Instructor Date . Effective Human Resource Management In this paper I will describe some attributes of an effective human resource management strategy and how to communicate that strategy. How will the strategy unfold? Will I lead by setting a good example? Will I have to make decisions that are not very popular with the staff and employees? If I am not the one in charge, will I set an example of leadership by following to the best of my ability? Will my leadership style be respected? Will I make decisions that reflect the best interest of the employees, peers, those appointed over me, and the customers? All this will be a challenge and test how I am seen as a leader. These questions will not be answered in the next few pages. However, in the years of experience that will follow this class and the many leaders that I will try to emulate as my knowledge of human resources unfolds. I want to be an effective leader, I read in our text; the experience and leadership style of the operating manager or leader directly affect human resource management activities because many, if not most, programs must be implemented at the work-unit level. Thus, the operating manager or leader is a crucial link in the human resource management function. Leaders must orchestrate the distinctive skills, experiences, personalities, and motives of individuals. Leaders also must facilitate the......

What Is Effective Management?

...What is effective management? This will be one dimension that you will have to reflect on throughout the unit – some questions that might arise is there such a thing as ‘one best way’ of being effective? Does being effective require a set of skills, or is it more about being adaptable and flexible? Is it more effective to think of management as the sole locus of the manager, or as a group or ever organizational dynamic? Gender Equality/Balance – were more women just not choosing promotions? More complex than that – See Acker article on Moodle to help start thinking through these ideas! Administrative Management The influence on the workplace of the KIPPER phenomenon The KIPPER phenomenon is just one example of a social dynamic that can have an influence on the workplace (e.g. people having to stay in work longer and retire later in order to financial support adult children). At a more general level it highlights how different social or cultural trends always have an influence or organizational life. Definitions are always difficult I agree – and there are lots of definitions! A good place to start is think about the academic definition given to a term in a text book or, better still, an academic paper, and then think how this might translate into an organizational setting. The framework for the unit Broadly speaking, the unit starts off at an individual level and them moves towards ideas which are more group-based, then more organizational based. However, this...

Effective Management Communication in Organizations

...Effective Management Communication in Organizations Violet Murrill BUS 600 Jan Tucker March 24, 2014 Effective Management Communication in Organizations Do most people have knowledge of what communication involves? Yes, most people believe they know what communication involves, however, most people lack true communication skills. Communication involves transferring information from one person or a group to others. Information is delivered in different forms such as terms or words, symbols, figures or numbers, a single concept, or sets of concepts combined (Baack, 2012). We do not just speak words when we communicate; we create meanings as we figure out what each other’s words and actions stand for, represent, or imply (Ramaraju, 2012). Communication is described by Baack (2012) as “transmitting, receiving, and processing information.” Real communication occurs when all three elements of communication take place. In business, communication skills are critical to organizations, so that they can compete nationally and in the global market and their goals are met to become successfully. This paper will describe interpersonal communication and global communication, which include the norms of communication, barriers of communication, verbal and nonverbal communication, written communication, methods of leading groups and techniques of handling group conflicts and effective approaches to giving presentations that affect every element within the organization for......

Effective Ways of Searching the Internet

...STUDY SKILL ASSIGNMENT INTRODUCTION According to Jan Brophy (2004), the Internet has changed the traditional information retrieving system to putting forth more rapid and greater volume of information in short time than possible. Internet is supposedly called as the fastest way of getting the information on hand. There are number of tools available to the students to help them with their academics such as newspaper, books, technical papers, written thesis but finding a specific information from these sources can sometimes be time consuming, tedious and almost impossible. Thus Internet is the only tool where one can find any details of small piece of information in less time. Other than Internet, other sources are reliable sources and require no counter verifying but data found on Internet must be verified with other sources as well. How to Search the Internet? According to Bell (2004), libraries that give the surplus of information can no longer satisfy the people who are craving for fast retrieving, easy access to unlimited information even though it has full text content thus people prefer using unorganized Internet rather than organized library. Often there is a dilemma about where to search for good information over the Internet. There are number of website some of which are standalone search engines eg www.google.com , www.bing.com and some of them are providing an addition tool on their website which works as search engine e.g www.yahoo.com, www.rediff.com etc...

Effective Management of Multicultural Team

...grow up in different countries and have hybrid cultural identities. Globalization and the advances in communication and transportation technology have reduced trade barriers and increased interaction among people. Multicultural teams have become more common in our organizations, and contemporary international management literature has identified that the management of multicultural teams is an important aspect of human resource management. Recent studies have focussed on the positive effects of using multicultural teams, for example, Earleyand Mosakowski (2000) stated that multicultural teams are used because they are perceived to out-perform monoculture teams, especially when performance requires multiple skills and judgement. However, there has been little research into construction-specific multicultural teams, and many construction organisations, although expanding into global operations do not fully appreciate the implications and are often unable to respond to cultural factors affecting their project teams. 1.1 Objective of the diploma paper • To explain challenges faced by Multicultural team and how to manage them • To give recommendations on effective management of multicultural team. 1.2 Significant of the study • To explain to which extent the multicultural team can be managed • To explain to which extent the multicultural team diversity can be used for the benefit of the organization. 2. The Most Effective Way of Meeting Oppression

...The Most Effective Way of Meeting Oppression Martin Luther King’s “The Ways of Meeting Oppression” is an expository essay in which King explains the most effective way of meeting oppression. According to King, there are three ways in which the oppressed meet oppression. He explains that acquiescence is the least effective way of meeting oppression because it is not the moral way out. He further explain that violence as a way of meeting oppression because it is not the moral way out. He then explains that violence as a way of meeting oppression is not the most effect because it achieves temporary results. In the essay, King points out that nonviolence resistance is the most effective way of meeting oppression because it establishes respect, brotherhood, and nobility for the Negro. First, King agrees that nonviolent resistance is the most effective way of meeting oppression, for it establishes respect for the Negro. He explains that the Negro’s demonstration of self-respect is choosing to face his struggle with courage. He further explains that the effect of meeting oppression this way will enlist men of good will into his struggle for equality. King clearly states that “the Negro cannot win the respect of the white people of the south or the people of the world if he is willing to sell the future of his children for his personal and immediate comfort and safety” (382). He affirms that through nonviolent resistance the Negro will achieve dignity because he is not......

Effective Ethics and Crisis Management

...frequently overlap. Harassment can be discriminatory, bullying can be a form of harassment, and any of these behaviors can lead to workplace violence. Employee Mistreatment can come from coworkers mistreating each other, managers mistreating employees, sexual mistreatment, assaults, discriminations against woman with lower wages, discriminations against minorities, and corporate bulling. In my research I found that corporate bulling happens more than one thinks and it’s a complex issue. While there are a variety of reasons why bullies choose to target other people, usually their behavior is driven by the bully’s need to control the targeted individual. These employees want to call all the shots. So they often insist on having things their way and if others don’t comply they are targeted. Usually, these bullies have strong social skills and a lot of influence within the company. As a result, they use these attributes to dominate other people. Other workplace bullies may target their co-workers out of envy. They may feel threatened by the target’s strengths or accomplishments or insecure about their own abilities. There is protection for employees that find themselves in any form of employee mistreatment that their employer is unwilling to resolve. They have the right to report in to OSHA, The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1974 guarantees them this right. They can meet an OSHA inspector in private to discuss their complaint. Customer Mistreatment can come in......

Principles of Effective Management

...Principles of Effective Management: 1. To understand goals and constraints Every organization must have one of the following goals: a. Profit maximization b. Sales maximization If the firm is working in Islamic society then it has one more goal which is “Welfare maximization”. Constraints are the limitations on organization. Every organization has limited amount of input i.e. Land, labor, Capital and all other factors of production. So every organization has to set its goals by considering the resources it has to generate the required output. 2. To understand nature and importance of profits An organization has to see that what type of profit it will achieve, whether it is “Normal profit” or “Super-Normal profit”. There are two types of profit on which an organization has to keep an eye: i. Accounting Profit Accounting profit tells the profit get by subtracting cost from revenue. Accounting Profit = Revenue – Cost Accounting profit is not a very good way to find out the actual profit because it didn’t include the opportunity cost in it. ii. Economic Profit Economic profit is much better measurement of profit then accounting profit. Because it just not includes the cost to generate revenue but it also includes the opportunity cost. Opportunity cost of an activity (or goods) is equal to the best next alternative foregone. Economic Profit = Revenue – (Cost + Opportunity Cost) Opportunity cost helps organization to find out the cost they are......

Relationship of Statistics and Effective Management

...Relationship of Statistics and Effective Management Relationship of Statistics and Effective Management I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain how statistics is beneficial to me in my position as a manager. As you are well aware, decision making is a key aspect in your role as a manager. No person can be expected to always do things perfectly, as we are all human. Knowing this, when I make a decision that affects myself and the company as a whole I want to be certain that I am seeing a good view of things. Basing decisions solely on feelings or pressure from various departments of the company are not always the best thing for the company. So to help with the assurance to make sure I am making logical beneficial decisions for the company I employ statistics. Before our budgets are created for the next fiscal year, I log into the computer and run several reports. The reports that I run are based on statistics. The end result or numbers that are printed out are pulled from information on several other databases. Things such as expenses, sales, material costs all are plugged into formulas. I then run other formulas to evaluate the data based on several variables or what if scenarios. I then present the final information to our Controller showing potential profits or losses for our company based on activity. When the time comes to undertake a new project, research must first be performed. When information is gathered or......
