Task 1- how would you define criminology?

Criminology could be defined in many ways. My understanding is that there is not one proven categorical definition of the word criminology as there are so many ways to describe it.

Criminology has been orientated towards sociological, and has been in the main since the 1920’s. However there are some statements that link criminology to that of Psychological and Biological thinking the book stipulate. However regardless of whichever disipline you choose to define criminology one thing is for certain which “is the use of a systematic way of thinking”.

My definition of Criminology is that of the scientific study of crime, criminals, criminal behaviour, the nature and extent of a crime, and the causes and control of criminal behaviour in both the individual and in society.
Criminology could be called a social science as it combines the efforts drawn up between sociologists, psychologists and social anthropologists. With there theories and findings it gives a better understanding of crime and criminal behaviour that can support prosecutors, judges, lawyers, prison officials and probation officers, so they can improve or develop more appropriate sentences and treatments for criminal behaviour.

Criminology centres its attention on its research in to crime and the individuals who commit crime, it also looks at the criminal justice system in the hope that the information can be transformed into policies that will effect the handling of crime or even the elimination of crime.

Task-2 Explain the difference between macro and micro theories used by criminologists.

Macro theories and micro theories are both detailed theories used by criminologists that pay close attention to different aspects of crime and criminal behaviour.

Macro theories

Macro theories are detailed theories that explains the larger scale of crime…...

According to American Marketing Association (2012), marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. There is business to consumer marketing and business to business marketing and each is different but similar at the same time. Business to consumer marketing is the process by which companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships, in order to capture value from customers in return. Marketing in this situation is used to identify the customer, satisfy the customer and keep the customer. In this situation you figure out what the consumer wants and how to keep them using your product and this is marketing research. The people doing the research have to find out what specifics the consumer wants in their product and figure out the best way to accomplish that and advertise it for the consumer. A good example of this would be cell phones; these are something that is getting more advanced and competitive. The key to cell......

Define the City

...Define the City A city is usually associated with big bright lights, hectic traffic, lots of busy roads and tall dark buildings- however, rarely do we look past the mere surface of a city to see what exactly constructs “the city”. To me, population has always been a significant indicator associated with cities- if the area has a large population then it is considered to be a city. Reading these articles I still believe in this connection and this large population makes the city a social institution. The best definition of a city is made by Lewis Mumford when he states that the city is not just a physical fact but rather a social institution- “where men by mutual society and companying together, do grow to alliances, commonalties, and corporations.”[1] The large population enables the formation of the “social” part of the institution and in return the institution is needed to organize, lead and support the population. The city is the economic and political centre which is created by and for the people. Every city, due to its large population will have a large work force, and this large work force will produce large economic growth. This economic gain is orchestrated by the population to increase their own standard of living. “Cities” are where the main consulates, embassies, town halls, etc can be found, which are all created by people to create order and structure to the population. Along with this the city is a “theatre of social action”[2] where people can be found......

Define Marketing

...Define Marketing MKT/421 Marketing in my opinion is a business strategy that is designed to help promote a business. For example, commercials are a marketing strategy that organizations use to promote their business as well as other things like flyers and billboards. Marketing also includes a lot of planning when taking into consideration things like who your target market is. Once that decision is made then a business can start laying the ground work with their marketing strategy because then they can decide on what’s the best way to appeal to their consumer. According to The Chartered Institute of Marketing, "Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably." This means the ideas, the brand, how you communicate, the design, print process, measuring effectiveness, market research and the psychology of consumer behavior all count as part of the bigger picture of ‘marketing’. On www.businessdictionary.com the definition of marketing is as follows: The management process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer. It includes the coordination of four elements called the 4 P's of marketing: (1) identification, selection and development of a product, (2) determination of its price, (3) selection of a distribution channel to reach the customer's place, and (4) development and implementation of a promotional strategy. Marketing is extremely important to......

Define Marketing

...Define Marketing Paper 1 Define Marketing Paper MKT/421 Define Marketing Paper 2 Marketing is very essential for a company to succeed; this is how people learn about a product or service. A person learning about a product or service is not all that marketing does, marketing entails more than that. I will discuss my personal definition of marketing along with formal definitions with example to support my explanations. Personal Definition When I think of marketing I think of it as the opportunity to grab a person’s attention so that they become interested in your product or services. I think Costco has a great idea on how to grab people’s attention to sale the products they have in their warehouse. For instance they have people come in and demonstrate the products they sale, for example I had seen this blinder a few times in the store never paid much attention until one day I went in and they were demonstrating how it work all the health benefits and offered it at a discount and gave coupons for frozen fruit. By doing this they got my attention and sold me the blinder and the fruit. They even demonstrate food I have bought food several times that were not on my list just because I tasted and wanted to it. At the end of each year they give their customers a free cookbook, and now they are offering a bulletin board to help promote the small businesses in their area. Showing that you care about your customers keeps them coming back and telling......

Define Democracy

...Define Democracy Checkpoint Gov/ March 29, 2011 Dorthy A Logan Democracy is a political structure. The people are allowed to vote on their government representatives and policy makers hoping to choose the right ones that will make good decisions for the people. Democracy is the way to peace having freedom and justice for all the people. That is what our country the United States is based on is freedom and it is we the people’s right. One of the freedoms includes the freedom of speech. Another right that we have is the right to vote. We the people have the right to a religion and we can live without having religious constraints. We have our right as long as we so do not infringe others and their rights. The descriptions are ideal of our democracy. But in reality we live in an environment that is politically corrupt. Moral breakdown and the misuse of power really turn into a society that the powerful and wealthy make up a culture of privileges. In reality this should not rule the people but be able to serve the people. It seems as though the powerful and wealthy do not care for the people who are confined in our culture. The lower class is treated differently and their rights and right to freedom are reduced. The government has control in a lot of areas in our society and people do not show common sense to govern in themselves some examples would be driving while talking on cell phones, smoking in public places, and teaching prayer in school. Everyone has their right to......

Define Marketing

...Define Marketing MKT/421 Rachel Rankin May 28, 2012 Evelyn Bisenz-Johnson Marketing Definition Marketing is an eclectic activity studies and undertaken by people with a wide variety of skills and knowledge bases. Many scholars and practitioners believe that marketing is not just a functional area within an organization but also a philosophy that should permeate all areas of the organization (Webster, 2005). Marketing managers within an organization transfer marketing into other functional areas with little training in marketing ((Bartels 1974, 1983; Hunt 1976, 2002). Marketing is an organization function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders (Gregory T. Gundlach, 2004). Marketing is a way an organization advertises their product to the community. Organizations would not have a great business without marketing their product; this would include advertising the product, what it does, and how it can work for you. Marketing department makes the product look good so individuals will want to purchase the items for their business. My personal definition of marketing is developing a product and plans a strategy that allows you access to the public, and corporation that needs your product. Define Marketing

...a new product to the marketplace. The following will define marketing, first my own personal definition, and then definitions from two different sources. In addition, the importance of marketing in an organization’s success will be explained based upon these definitions and include examples from the business world that support my explanations. Personally, I think marketing consists of many facets when trying to build a reputation for your business or introduction of a new product. Marketing can take place through advertising, surveying prospective clients, studying demographics of your market area, specifying a particular income range for your efforts, and many other forms of notifying or discovering a new client base. Yet the most basic form of marketing that exists is often ignored, and that is plain old good customer service. In my experiences in business, this was always the cheapest and most efficient way to build my company’s reputation because as the old adage goes, if you do a bad job, the client will let 10 people know, yet if you do a great job the client will tell a few. Customers are always more likely to complain than complement unless you step beyond the normal customer satisfaction levels. Other forms of marketing, especially when introducing a new product, consists of sampling and taste tests for food products and test drives for cars or sample size items for other products. Businessdictionary.com defines management as the “process through which goods and......

...Xbox 360 Defines Today and Tomorrow Robert Gaugh DeVry University Xbox 360 Defines Today and Tomorrow In 2005 Microsoft introduced the Xbox 360 to the world of console gaming; a moment that would define today and tomorrow for the rest of our lives. Microsoft stood out by treading uncharted waters that other competitors and previous consoles failed to explore. With people in mind, innovative heads at Microsoft catered to every gamer’s needs with the release of Xbox 360. By capturing exclusive rights to five game of the year titles, improving the online gaming experience, and remaining on the forefront of cutting edge technology, the Xbox 360 defines today and tomorrow. With big names like Sony and Nintendo ready to knock the consumer right off their feet, Microsoft needed to stand out and shine in a way its competitors couldn’t. The Xbox 360 needed exclusivity, and accomplished this by grabbing the rights to Halo, Gears of War, Fable, Forza Motorsport and Mass Effect. Not only were these franchises game of the year recipients, they specifically were the answer to all the rival gaming successes. Halo was the answer to any first person shooter success on any other console along with Gears of War. Forza Motorsport delivered the simulated racing game that Gran Turismo did for Sony. Fable and Mass Effect, yet different in ways, brought new meaning to the role playing genre by bringing a different approach than what gamers were used to. Microsoft’s decisiveness......
