Jails and Prisons
As the population grows along grows crime rates and jails, prisons, and community based programs are needed to punish and make criminals responsible for his or her acts. However, criminals will receive his or her punishment accordingly to the crime and type of person he or she is. There are different levels of punishment established from jails to prisons.
The four main types of correctional facilities county jail, state prison, federal prison, and juvenile facilities. County jails are used for criminals who are lawfully custody of the state and are awaiting trial. Criminals who have been convicted and have a sentence less than a year are incarcerated in a county jail. County jails are like small prisons, only county jails have work programs for inmates who demonstrate good behavior who allow a prisoner to go out to the community do a job and return at the end of his or her shift. A total institutional life is similar to an incarcerated inmate because a total institution is a place where a person lives and works him or she is away from a community for a considerable amount of time. People in a total institution place learn to live an enclosed life style surrounded by certain persons, and administrated by the people of the facility. In a total institution like jail or prison freedom is completely lost in all aspects a person loses even the privilege to have a different identity because he or she do not have access to cosmetics. A person in a jail or prison similar to a person in a total institution have little to no choice of what activities he or she will participate during the day, because many have to commit to activities that will him or her rehabilitate.
Jails play an important role in the criminal justice system because jails like prisons separate criminals from the public to make both safe. Many see…...

...MGMT422-1301A-01: Professor William Becker March 9, 2013 The new product/service that my group finally decided on was that of flipping houses. For those of you that do not know what this means, to “flip houses” means to purchase a home that was for sale, fix it up, and basically resell it for a lot more than you bought it for (Flipping Houses, 2013). There are lots of distribution channels to choose from when trying to get the word out to the public about a product/service. The first channel that I think would work well would be television. If you think about it, there are commercials advertising homes that have been put up for foreclosure by banks. This would be a great way to advertise homes that have been “flipped”. Another distribution channel that I think would be good for getting the word out to consumers is the Internet. There are people that get on the Internet every day looking for homes for sale. One advantage that this could have is that the seller of the home can post pictures of the house on their Website, and then the possible consumers could see what they are looking at buying. I have also seen classified ads in the local newspapers about homes for rent/sale. Really and truthfully, I feel that it is up to the person selling the homes about how they choose to advertise for “flipping” houses. After doing some research, the most popular areas for flipping houses are Florida, California, Nevada, and Arizona. The target market that our group......

...Eric Carr Unit 2 Individual Project BUSN300 - 1303A – 03 Professor Rodney Cullifer 8/6/2013 When we think about GDP, it is important to determine the country’s output. When I say the country’s total output I mean everything produced by the people of the country, as well as all the companies within the country. Today I will be discussing to you all the recent history and expected future conditions of the American economy. In the current American economy, we must concentrate on the future. The current trends that are taking place in our economy are essential for determining the future of the U.S. economy. Some of the trends in the U.S. economy consist of business cost rising due to uncertainly. What this means is that as a result of the 2008 financial crisis, businesses have to change their way of doing business just to keep up. Another trend is companies hiring less full-time workers and more part-time, and temporary employee. The reason that companies do this is because they want to keep their overhead low, remain flexible in an unstable environment, and to keep from paying higher health care benefits. The U.S. economy is gradually declining in global economic power. According to current trends the U.S. will take part in another major crisis, but will not have an economic downfall. Current statistics about the U.S. economy indicates that the economy is growing at a fast rate. The moderate growth rate is about 2-3% which is good enough to create more jobs but it......

...Deborah Rodriguez April 22, 2014 Social Security & Disability Seminar Assignment Unit 4 In unit four, we learned about the attorney fees that came up with our assignment. There are two main sources of attorney’s fees in Social Security cases. Most awards by far are paid by the claimant, usually out of past-due benefits. Another source of fees is the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA), a federal fee-shifting statute. For the most part, attorney’s fees for OASDI and SSI claims are governed by the same or similar rules. Many of the same rules apply also to non-attorney representatives. Attorney’s fees paid out of the claimant’s benefits are regulated by statute and regulations. Fees for claims resolved within SSA are authorized at the administrative level where the final decision is reached. Thus, administrative law judges approve fees in cases where a favorable hearing decision was issued, and the Appeals Council authorizes fees in cases decided finally only by the Appeals Council. The representative must file a request for fees in writing, which must include a list of services performed, the amount of the fee, and any expenses incurred. SSA considers a number of factors when evaluating a representative’s request for fees, including the type and amount of services performed, the difficulty of the case (including the skill required of the representative), and the results achieved. Although the amount of benefits received is taken into consideration, it does...

...There are many practical applications from the unit 2 study. The survey could be used in many places within the workplace for example the survey can show the percent of people who work in each department. This could be used so the managers could figure out if they need more in a certain department. Another thing they could determine if they need to hire more people would be with age categories. The categories show three different age groups and by looking at them they would be able to tell who was close to retirement and when to hire some new workers. The results for this survey would also be able to show how successful they are within their job satisfaction. The more satisfied the employees are the better job they will do. The managers can look at this information and create rewards and maybe a salary change if needed to satisfy their employees. Correlational research is basically a way to determine the relation between two different variables. The way that correlational research works is to figure out a prediction about one thing based on another. For example gender and department could form a correlational relationship. The reason why I chose these two is because there may be a certain dominant gender that works in a certain department and by looking at the data you will be able to see if that is true (Lanthier, 2002). One thing that I learned about correlation and causation was that they are not the same and correlation does not show causation. I learned......

...Unit 2 Discussion Board Thesis Statement: “War on Terror” has reduced more of our freedoms in America and has done little to catch Terrorist: we should eliminate the TSA and reevaluate all the other amendments that are being infringed upon and restore our freedom. Annotated Bibliography Garrett, R. L. (2014). Lone Wolves: Coming to an Airport near You?. Airport Business, 28(3), 14-16. Ronnie Garrett describes the growing trend of the lone terrorist (the single terrorist that acts alone); he uses the LA gunman that opened fired at the LA Airport in LA last fall. This gunman didn’t go through security. He walked in the front of the airport got out his gun and opened fired. This type of terrorism is growing; this defeats the purpose of the TSA. I feel there are not enough acts of this kind to justify the expense of having the expenditure of the TSA in full blown TSA mode through every airport in the country. (n.d). TSA 'chat-downs' not meeting goals and expectations. USA Today. August 17, 2012 USA today did a report on a new security technique the TSA was piloting in Boston. They were testing a new system were they were reading facial expressions and signals on over 725000 passengers passing through the airports and only a small number were recommended for prosecution and none were terrorist. The program did not rule out to any other airports. This backs up my view that the TSA is not effective. I am not saying the process would not have worked, I have heard of this......

...ECON224- Unit 1 DB Cheri Bolin July 19, 2011 Proponents of free market systems argue that free enterprise leads to more efficient production and better response to changing consumer preferences. Others point to the fact that markets are not perfect. Before beginning my classes, I really hadn’t thought about the economy other than the hardships it has brought my family and I over the past several years. After completing Microeconomics I had a bigger picture of the “small” part of our economic system. The inner workings of our economy and its effects on our country as a whole, somewhat fascinated me. I really do not know much about free markets or free enterprise but what I do know, I do have an opinion on. I agree yes- free markets are not perfect but with that said, I believe that is why they work so well. Now, there are some good and bad qualities of a free market and enterprise, just like everything else in this country. In my opinion, other markets and enterprises, such as protected or forced markets are incorrect. When individuals put decisions, basically our well-being, in the hands of our government and politicians, they are asking to be told what, when and how to live their lives. Now don’t get me wrong, I do believe that there are some great laws, we have in place but most of them are downright ignorant. If we had the choice as individuals whether we would prefer a free market and enterprise, I am sure that 75% of the U.S. would be all for it. The ability......

Once the formalities were out of the way, we settled down to the business of becoming students. In this Phase 1 DB2, we were told to pick a company, and to follow it throughout the course. I chose Wal-Mart. The selection was made, and the research was done, and I found that this company really lives up to its Mission Statement, “saving people money so they can live better lives”. I also learned of another commitment called CSR, Corporate Social Responsibility. This function is dedicated to, and responsible for developing policies, that integrate responsible practices into daily business. We also discussed why a CSR program was relevant in today’s marketplace. It is nothing more than the ethics of business. We also discussed how CSR was responsible to the stakeholders, stockholders, associates, and customers. It was also interesting to know where Wal-Mart was, as far as the industry was concerned, and where in the global market. This is where I learned about the NAICS (North American Industry Classification System, and The Global Industry......
