Communication & Collaboration

Multiple pathways to learning assessment along with the personality spectrum assessment can really help a person figure out their learning styles. It is a simple quiz to find out what your way of communicating and collaborating is. You will discover what it is you like most and what it is you like least. You will be amazed in what you may find out about yourself; that is if you already did not know.
Taking the pathways to learning assessment and the personality spectrum was a great experience for me. It helped me recognize just a little bit more about myself. Through these two assessments I have discovered my way of learning which I had no idea of before. It was found that I was an intrapersonal and musical type of person. Also I discovered my personality was more than one. I learned that I was a thinker, organizer and a giver. The results were stunning to me because I never considered myself to be an organizer, however I knew that I was a giver and thinker, it has always been my nature. Learning Styles There are several types of learning styles that fits each individual. A learning style is just the way your brain takes in information for you to remember. Everyone has their own way of learning. Some of these learning styles are: Intrapersonal, interpersonal and musical. Each one of these styles is a unique intelligence. Someone who is interpersonal has the ability to relate to other persons feelings and emotions. These types of people can sense if someone is in a good mood or just having a bad day. This is an advantage to them because they would know what to say at all times according to the situation. Interpersonal people are usually great within a team and can have…...

...Strategies for Communication and Collaborating Effectively Gen 200 Strategies for Communication and Collaborating Effectively To communicate and collaborate effectively within a group of individuals with different learning styles and personality traits they must have a good leader. In a team environment everyone needs a good leader who can see your strengths and weaknesses. Working in a team is a wonderful way to see other aspects from a different point of view. A good leader can implement support system, which will allow a team to work together effectively. Learning Styles A team uses multiple learning styles; I am going to develop a strategy for three of them. The first style that can be effective is bodily/kinesthetic. This is a team member who is more of a hands-on learner. There are so many ways that this kind of learner can work well in a group setting. This is a person who likes physical activity. These team members like to get dirty and are in touch with the physical world around you. They utilize all of their senses around them to learn effectively. Another style of learning is intrapersonal. These learners can evaluate their own thinking. In this style of learning you are very aware of your surroundings and can express your feelings to others well. They do well with their own goals. This person would be great at motivating your team. This member has a great understanding of themselves as well as others. The last learning style......

...Communication and Collaboration Being part of a group can be challenging at times since each team member has his or her own learning style and personality. Each person differs when it comes to their learning style. Ones strength in one area might be the weakness of another’s. Knowing the different styles and personalities of each member will help the group to be more successful in communicating and collaborating. To help things run smoother within a group, professors and scientists have come up with many strategies to assist groups in communicating and collaborating effectively. According to Howard Gardner, “there are eight intelligences possessed by all people and that every person has developed some intelligence more fully than others” (Carter, Bishop, and Kravits, 2007). Three of these intelligences include interpersonal, intrapersonal, and verbal-linguistic. Each of these intelligences has positive and negative outcomes on each person. The interpersonal is more focused on those people who are excellent at creating and maintaining personal relationships. This learning style is based on more for those who are able to see things from the others perspective and have experience in cooperating within a group. The intrapersonal is more focused on those who are more independent, self-aware of things and enjoy spending time alone. They understand themselves better when it comes to relating to the others on the team. Verbal-Linguistic is yet another intelligence that is......

Strategy for Communication

...Strategies for Communicating and Collaborating Effectively within a group J.D.P. Gen/200 1 February 2011 I have identified three different learning styles based on the findings from the multiple Pathways to learning Assessment. The three styles were Interpersonal, Verbal linguistic, and Bodily Kinesthetic. Interpersonal: The interpersonal learning style was the first one found during my assessment. These learners seem to communicate well, and can see things from someone else view point. They will cooperate in a group setting. My strategy for effective communication and collaborating would be to listen to what everyone has to say and take notes. Then discuss what was said and reflect on the information then give suggestions. I could take the lead on some assignments. Verbal linguistic: The verbal linguistic will learn by remembering terms. Explaining, learning, and using humor. The strategy for effective communication and collaborating would be to recite what’s discussed, rewrite notes. I could analyze the assignment for more understanding. Teach someone else, read the text outline chapters. Bodily Kinesthetic: The Bodily kinesthetic learning style will learn better by moving, walking and talking will open their thinking process. The strategy for effective communication and collaborating would be to move around, act out what’s being discussed. Use a mental map or draw diagrams or use figures to explain. Try...

Communicating and Collaborating

...Communicating and Collaborating Hannae Warren GEN/200 09 September 2011 Kim Maclin Communicating and Collaborating In order to communicate and collaborate effectively as a group, everyone needs to adapt to the other team member’s learning styles and personality types. Everyone is unique with how he or she learns and communicates. This paper will explore strategies to effectively communicate and collaborate within a group with team members that have logical/mathematical, interpersonal, and verbal learning styles, and organizer, giver, and thinker personality types. Logical/mathematical learners study or learn best by organizing material logically, developing systems and finding patterns, writing outlines and developing charts and graphs, and by analyzing the information. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravitz, 2007, p.44). They reason inductively, deductively, and scientifically, they are able to perform complex calculations, they are able to recognize abstract patterns, and discern relationships and connections. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravitz, 2007, p.43). This type of learner would be the best candidate to find the appropriate approach to the assignment that has been given to a team. They are apt to making lists, organizing, and making agendas. So who better than the logical/mathematical learner to begin the assignment process? They should also be the individuals to go over the assignment at the end to make sure there are no errors because they are able to......

Communication

...Communication is necessary for any business to be successful. There are many levels and types of communication. To be a fully effective manager, all communication levels must be used appropriately. Knowing your audience and what you are you trying to communicate is essential when trying to be an effective communicator. Training and learning communication skills is necessary for management. “If a leader can’t get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn’t even matter” (Bawany, 2014). Communication is important when working together to reach a goal in the workplace. Without effective communication that goal cannot be met. For a business to run and operate smoothly, effective communication is vital. Without proper communication a business could possibly fail. “Management communication includes all efforts to systematically plan, implement, monitor, and upgrade the channels of communication within the organization and with outside organizations that affect a company's internal operations” (Baack, 2012). It is important to make sure all communication runs smoothly, this includes verbal and nonverbal communication. A manager must know their employees and their personalities to know how to effectively communicate with each employee. Some employees prefer emails while others like face to face communication. Just like we all learn in different ways, we also all take communication in different ways as well. It is important to effectively...

Communicating and Collaborating

...Communicating and Collaborating Strategy GEN 200 Abstract Being a part of a learning team or group can sometimes be very beneficial but will also require working with different learning styles and personality types. Everyone will not always come together which will more than likely cause conflict among the team. The team has to be aware that everyone brings a different personality and learning style to the group. Acknowledging this will insure a better working environment and lead to the team’s success. Based on my personal assessment my learning styles are: interpersonal, verbal linguistic and bodily kinesthetic. My personality types are: organizer, adventurer and giver. These characteristics allow me to have a better understanding of my surroundings and be more knowledgeable of people who are different from me. Learning styles help to separate strengths from weaknesses. My first learning style is Interpersonal. An interpersonal person is able to listen to other people’s opinions and view them from another perspective. According to the book, “Interpersonal Skills to Leadership” (Fritz, 2005), I will be a lifelong learner. I prize curiosity. I want to be well informed. My ultimate goal is to learn from my life events so that sometime in my later years I will have great wisdom. As an interpersonal person I enjoy talking with people and helping them, which makes them feel comfortable. People are at ease to discuss conflict with an interpersonal person...

Cisco Systems, Inc.: Collaborating on New Product Introduction

...CASE: GS-66 DATE: 06/05/09 CISCO SYSTEMS, INC.: COLLABORATING ON NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION On November 13, 2007, more than 100 employees of Cisco Systems, Inc. assembled in classic Cisco fashion: they dialed in from multiple locations around the world for an important meeting. The purpose of the gathering was to get the green light from senior management to manufacture a new high-end router that would make the giant networking company more competitive in an age of surging Internet traffic.1 The project’s code name, Viking, said it all. The router for broadband service providers would break ground in power and speed, reminiscent of the Norse warriors and explorers of Europe during the eighth to eleventh centuries. The meeting represented a culmination of several years of development work by a cross-functional, global team of Cisco specialists in engineering, manufacturing, marketing and other areas. Just months earlier, in mid-2007, Cisco overhauled the project by sharply boosting the router’s speed and capacity. This would allow the company to leapfrog competitors and offer a low-cost, powerful new router platform for the next 10 to 15 years. That day in November, the Viking team was seeking an “execution commit” from senior management in manufacturing. If it got the go-ahead, Cisco would be ready to commit the resources to launch the new product. But the Cisco team knew it faced many challenges. The Viking project would be one of the company’s most......
