...investigation goes any further it is important to highlight and define some key terminology that will be utilised for the means of this paper. According to Levinson (1983) “Conversation analysis (henceforward CA) is known as an approach to the study of natural conversation which covers both verbal and non- verbal interaction in everyday situations”. This notion was developed in 1960s by Harley Sacks when he was employed at “the Centre for the Scientific Study of Suicide in Los Angeles”. He discovered recorded phone calls that laid a fundamental framework for the new method later termed as CA (Have, 2007: 6). Have (ibid) further reveals the two ways of how CA utilised in studies: a ‘broad sense’ also known as ‘oral communication’ ; though, the outline of this concept is used in a ‘restricted sense’ as it traces to early 1960s when it was firstly introduced by Harvey Sacks, Emanuel Schegloff and Gail Jefferson (ibid: 7) how interaction occurs. CA studies revealed that ‘casual daily talk’ with people is not a random dialogue but a “sequentially structured and interactively managed” (Firth, 1996: 238) conversation. The concept of CA was further defined and introduced by Emanuel Schegloff, Harvey Sacks, and Gail Jefferson in late 1970s. Since then, the role and focus of CA has dramatically expanded and rather than concentrating on the “casual conversational analysis” (Schegloff et al., 1977 : 361) it spread over the other fields, such as, speech and cross-cultural......

Ca Technologies

...CA Technologies Cloud Confrontation Cloud computing has been talked about so heavily the last few years it almost made you believe that 100% adoption would happen almost immediately. What is somewhat amusing is that using services in the cloud isn’t really as new as some people believe. Many consumers and business folks are now just being made aware that they are using cloud services. Also raising awareness is the fact that today’s network speeds are facilitating the possibility of widespread cloud adoption by consumers and businesses when before it was not possible. CA Technologies found itself in a position that many IT shops and vendors have struggled with over the past few years. Deciding between trying to keep intact what you had worked so hard to build and introducing a quantum shift in your IT business model was quite the conundrum. CA had a profitable balance sheet built on thirty plus years of accrued knowledge and experience. However, their management was savvy enough to realize that they couldn’t rest on their laurels. They identified that they had to position themselves for the move to cloud computing or possibly get left behind by competitors and the industry. CA did react quickly by acquiring companies to enhance their cloud portfolio offerings. While some may have viewed this as a reactionary move by the company, I believe their strong leadership did so based on facts and a new company strategy. In the years prior to the cloud acquisitions, CA......

Information Technology Career Review

...Portfolio Project Professional Plan Bryant & Stratton College Southtowns Campus James Armstrong Network Security Mrs. Sedor March 19, 2014 This paper examines different aspects of the Information Technology field and related career paths. Certain aspects of the IT field were researched and explored in an attempt to learn more about the job market and the IT field. The categories that were explored in each job title were; pay scale, industry growth rate, responsibilities as well as educational background and training. Also examined was the possible over saturation of the job market by qualified but untested applicants in a seriously competitive market. (the number of students expected to graduate versus the projected job market). Information Technology Network Security is an ever changing, growing field of study. One cannot get involved in the careers it encompasses without having a basic love of learning, even on a subconscious level. New technology is constantly being developed and so anyone in the IT field must continually be retrained, for lack of a better term. This holds true even more so for the software side of the field. Consider the firewall or antivirus software, every time the computer system is turned on the system checks for updates to its library of known viruses. That means somewhere on the other end of the internet connection is a network security technician who is constantly researching and investigating new......

Infosec Career

...Security roles. Ours is a healthy job market and we do need qualified and motivated applicants. The jobs exist, but we repeatedly see candidates being given false advice to get them. With tremendous and very much appreciated help from many of my colleagues and friends in the field, I have endeavored to compile a comprehensive blog about starting an InfoSec career. This is a very lengthy blog broken into sections that may help people as parts or as a whole. We want you to succeed in our field. As always, please feel free to ask questions or leave comments / gripes / suggestions. Chapter 1: The Fundamentals  Unfortunately, for all the interminable hacking tool tutorials and security guides floating around the internet, many InfoSec job candidates haven’t grasped two fundamental concepts: * To hack something (or defend it from hacking), you must have a solid understanding of how that thing works. And, * InfoSec is not a career that can be put in a box once you go home from work or school. You must be passionate enough about the field to be continually learning and aware of quickly changing current events. If you want a career that you can forget about once you go home at 5:00 PM, InfoSec is probably not the right choice. The really intriguing thing about InfoSec and hacking in general is how they draw heavily from knowledge of all sorts of IT subjects. It’s difficult to understand attacks, malware traffic, or intrusions without a firm understanding of network ports,......

Careers in Accounting

...Assignment 1: Careers in Accounting Isaac I. Huff Strayer University Assignment 1: Careers in Accounting When it comes to pursuing a career in the accounting field, there are many options. According to there are four primary fields in the arena of accounting. Public accounting, Management accounting, Governmental accounting, and internal auditing are the primary fields with many sub-fields that can be entered into. Accounting, of all types, is a constant demand field. A brief search with the term “accountant” yielded over 500 results on alone. Two of the accounting fields that interest me most are Forensic Accounting, and Tax Accounting. These two areas appear to be the most involved and ever changing areas in accounting. A Tax accountant is accountable for the collection of tax-related information, reporting to taxation authorities at the federal, state, county, and local levels in a timely manner, and advising management on the tax impact of various corporate strategies. And a Forensic Accounting is the examination of financial records that will lead to or result from litigation. The results of a forensic accounting investigation can be used as evidence in court, and so are usually heavily documented. With the ever-changing US tax code and the increased scrutiny that business is beginning to face, due to things like the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, these two areas can be the difference between jail and smooth operation. Forensic Accounting is a...
